Amulet of Destruction

The Amulet of Destruction is Karl's bonded spell amplifier, raising one spell each minute by a full mortal rank or one Immortal sub-rank.

History

A defeated guild pays Karl with a spell amplifier

The amulet enters the Darklight Host's possession during restitution negotiations after a failed guild challenge. An opposing cleric and mage offer it with another artifact and continuing dungeon proceeds in exchange for three lives. Karl accepts the broader settlement after inspecting the amulet's ability, recognizing that a temporarily Immortal-rank [Avatar] or defense could change battles far beyond the item's small physical form. (Chapter 1060)

The narration alternates between calling it an amulet and a bracelet. Karl initially delays bonding it because only one person can bond and use it, then concludes that the strongest available user should hold such a scarce effect. His later repeated activations establish that he becomes that bonded user; no subsequent transfer is shown. (Chapters 1060–1061 and 1238)

Temporary rank elevation reshapes Karl's combat choices

Karl first demonstrates the item by raising [Avatar] to Immortal rank while he is still mortal. He later redirects the boost to [Disintegration] on the Blade of Champions, proving that the amulet can target an active coating or barrier instead of only transformations. Because the underlying cast remains at Karl's ordinary rank for cost purposes, opponents may misread the elevated effect as evidence that he is spending Immortal-scale mana. After Karl reaches the Immortal Realm, the same rule becomes a one-sub-rank increase. He uses it on Oathbreaker summons, [Warbeast]-enhanced forms, spatial construction, and a Spirit Bear Tyrant, selecting whichever single cast matters most during the current minute. These applications make the amulet a flexible amplifier rather than a permanent rank increase to Karl or every spell he knows. (Chapters 1603, 1692, 1803, and 1898)

Abilities and properties

• Once per minute, increases one spell by one full rank in the Mortal Ranks or one sub-rank in the Immortal Realm. (Chapters 1060 and 1238)
• Only one bonded user can operate the item. The corpus does not show simultaneous sharing or a second bearer after Karl bonds it. (Chapter 1061)
• Can elevate transformations, summons, weapon coatings, defenses, or spatial cores, provided Karl selects that cast as the current target. (Chapters 1238, 1307, 1603, 1803, and 1898)
• The amplified effect can retain the ordinary spell's lower mana cost, as shown when an opponent mistakes elevated [Disintegration] attacks for Immortal-rank casts. (Chapter 1317)
• The item does not permanently raise Karl's rank, remove the one-spell-per-minute limit, or prove that multiple previously enhanced spells remain elevated after he changes targets. (Chapters 1061 and 1307)
