Tori
Tori, later renamed Tamarind, is an Ascended Rank Academy mage whose death in the Frost Giant war leads to resurrection in a younger body. She chooses to rebuild her life as a trainee in Prince Corbin's Spellblade Clan.
Biography
From Senior Mentor to War Casualty
Tori first appears as a graduating-class defender assigned to motivate younger Academy students. Her Ascended strength and prepared Magic Missile orbs make her a useful model of sustained mage fire: distributing mana across charged constructs lets her arrive with several attacks ready and eliminate weaker targets quickly. (Chapter 31 and Chapters 270–282)
During the Frost Giant campaign she joins Karl's mixed group, questions reckless plans, and helps its mages survive behind enemy lines. The mission ultimately kills her, and her companions ask the Life Clergy to watch for her return through resurrection. The loss makes clear that good preparation and Ascended power remain insufficient against prolonged, higher-ranked war. (Chapters 270–315)
Tamarind's Second Life
Tori returns in a child's body with the name Tamarind and joins Corbin's Spellblade Clan. She retains Ascended Rank magic but explicitly has not earned the Spellblade title, choosing trainee status while she expands her combat skills and adapts to resurrection. The clan gives her a family structure that keeps her away from past misbehaviour and turns survival into a deliberate new beginning. (Chapters 511–515)
Her second life is not safe by default. Tamarind is badly injured when two Totems battle near the clan, and Corbin must seek stronger clerical healing for her and others whose potions are inadequate. Her latest confirmed state remains alive and training, but vulnerable to the same rank disparities that ended her first life. (Chapter 552)
Appearance and personality
Before death, Tori is a tall blonde woman of about eighteen with elaborate ringlets and a pleated Academy skirt. After resurrection, Tamarind is a small girl whose familiar aggressive smile looks strikingly out of place on her younger face. She is confident about magic, skeptical of suicidal plans, and frank about the work required to earn a Spellblade title. (Chapters 31, 293–301, and 515)
Abilities and class
Tori is an Ascended Rank mage specializing in Magic Missile. She creates multiple firing orbs in advance, spreading the mana cost over time so she can open a battle with a prepared volley and continue forming ammunition without physical arrows. Extended casting still exhausts her, and prepared ranged output does not protect her from traps, mass combat, or Totem collateral damage. After resurrection she retains mage status and begins broader Spellblade training, but the corpus does not show her passing the clan exams or gaining a new System class. (Chapters 270–286, 299–315, 515, and 552)
Relationships
- Karl: Tori first mentors students near Karl, later fights beside him, and is remembered by him after her death. He welcomes Tamarind back without treating her younger body as a different person. (Chapters 31, 270–315, and 515)
- Dana: Dana discusses Magic Missile technique with Tori and shares the Frost Giant campaign that ends her first life. (Chapters 272–286 and 327)
- Prince Corbin: Corbin's clan gives Tamarind a new family and structured route toward becoming a Spellblade, while he protects and seeks healing for her in later crises. (Chapters 511–515 and 552)
