Kenichi

Kenichi is a senior Drake Rider who advances from Overlord to Totem while protecting the Dragon Isles, balancing opportunistic diplomacy, responsibility for younger riders, and direct defense of his homeland.

Biography

A distant dungeon expedition tests leadership without starting a war

Kenichi crosses half a continent with another Overlord and ten Ascended Drake Riders so the younger pairs can challenge a newly discovered dungeon and break into Commander rank. He presents the deployment as a vacation, but chooses to remain near the drakes, verifies that the trainees carry healers and potions, and entrusts their entry to the local commander only after terms are agreed. The group has paid more than necessary because it does not realize the dungeon is stable, yet Kenichi honors the arrangement rather than turning a bargaining mistake into an Overlord confrontation. (Chapters 420–421)

Witry mages arriving during the run threaten to turn the site into a three-nation standoff. Kenichi laughs at Karl's provocations and warns the newcomers that accepting the entry price would be safer than challenging him, but does not interfere with the negotiated duel. The restraint protects his riders, who emerge safely and advance while attention remains on Karl. Kenichi's humor therefore serves a political function: it punctures tension and communicates danger without committing his wing to a foreign battle. (Chapters 421–422)

Totem advancement deepens Kenichi's ties beyond the Dragon Isles

Kenichi later appears above the Golden Dragon Capital on his black drake during a contest over a rare advancement resource. An enemy targets the mount because Kenichi's own powers are poorly suited to unsupported flight, forcing the rider out of position and exposing the practical dependence within the partnership. By the time Supreme Lady Matilda summons him for Karl's wedding, he has nevertheless advanced from Overlord to Totem. He treats the invitation as improbable but responds immediately when unknown Totem mages portal into the courtyard, remaining alert even during a diplomatic celebration. (Chapters 724 and 1201–1206)

The relationship becomes strategically important when Immortal-controlled frogs attack the Drake Riders' home city. Kenichi and one other Totem are the region's only available leaders, so he fights despite the suicidal mismatch and accepts Karl's arriving Mythic assistance without wasting time on pride. He helps Hawk tear apart a Mythic octopus, explains Karl's taunting strategy to panicked guild riders, then asks for cleanup help after the Immortal escapes. His latest actions show a leader who can defer to stronger allies while continuing to organize the survival of his people. (Chapters 1316–1318)

Appearance and personality

Kenichi is a man with long black hair that blows loose when his hair tie is lost. He rides a black drake and is shown in the air far more often than on foot, but the corpus does not specify his eyes, height, clothing, age, or species. No separate transformed form is described. (Chapters 420 and 724)

He is sly, sociable, alert, responsible, and fond of dry provocation. Kenichi uses food and jokes to ease tense negotiations, taunts arrogant rivals, and readily laughs at Karl's behavior. Beneath that ease, he monitors his trainees, avoids intoxicating food while on foreign ground, reacts immediately to unknown portals, and remains in a collapsing defense because abandoning the city would leave it without leadership. (Chapters 420–422, 724, 1205, and 1316–1318)

Abilities and class

Kenichi is introduced as an Overlord Drake Rider and is explicitly Totem-ranked by Chapter 1202. The corpus does not provide his formal System class name, skill tree, awakening history, or the precise trigger for his advancement. His demonstrated strengths are mounted aerial leadership, high-rank combat participation, guild communication, and tactical judgment rather than named personal attacks. (Chapters 420, 724, and 1202)

Drake partnership and aerial mobility

Kenichi's black drake carries him through long-distance flight and lets him hover over battlefields. The mount is a combat partner rather than ordinary transportation, and Kenichi leads wings containing riders, drakes, and attached Dragon clerics. When an enemy attacks the drake directly, Kenichi tumbles because his personal abilities are poorly suited to flight; this establishes that his usual aerial control depends substantially on the mount. (Chapters 420–421 and 724)

The source does not name the drake, define their bond mechanics, or show which attack skills belong to rider versus beast. Kenichi can fly over to Karl during the later city battle, but the wording does not resolve whether that movement uses his mount or a Totem ability. His latest state therefore remains a Totem Drake Rider, not an independently demonstrated flight specialist. (Chapters 724 and 1318)

Totem combat, coordination, and limits

Kenichi helps Hawk attack a Mythic octopus and survives an Immortal-led invasion while coordinating Drake Rider guild messages. He recognizes that Karl's insults keep the stronger enemy focused away from the city and tells nervous subordinates to prepare escape portals if the defense fails. These are representative Totem-level applications of judgment and combined combat, but no named strike, barrier, healing skill, or damage value is assigned to Kenichi himself. (Chapters 1316–1318)

His advancement does not erase the rank gap above him. With only two Totems available and no local Myths, Kenichi considers the city's defense potentially suicidal and relies on Karl's Mythic allies to defeat the attackers. His value lies in keeping the remaining riders organized, assisting against targets within reach, and managing cleanup after stronger combatants depart. No Immortal breakthrough or later skill progression is shown. (Chapters 1316–1318)

Relationships

  • Karl: Kenichi first treats Karl as an entertaining foreign prodigy, later attends his wedding, and ultimately calls on him to save the Drake Riders' city. Respect grows through repeated proof rather than formal allegiance. (Chapters 420–422, 1201–1206, and 1316–1318)
  • Black drake mount: Kenichi's unnamed aerial partner and foundation of his fighting style. The drake carries him across continents and through high-rank confrontations, while attacks on it expose his limited unsupported flight. (Chapters 420 and 724)
  • Ahmad: A rival Overlord and fellow negotiator who helps arrange the first dungeon visit, then competes with Kenichi over a rare Capital opportunity. Their rivalry remains controlled despite national tensions. (Chapters 420–422 and 724)
  • Niall: An Inquisitor who joins the dungeon negotiation and understands the information struggle surrounding the stable trial. Kenichi follows the agreed process while Niall manages challenges from late arrivals. (Chapters 420–422)
  • Supreme Lady Matilda: The ancient guardian who invites Kenichi to Karl's wedding through means powerful enough to reach his private room, drawing him into a wider alliance network. (Chapters 1201–1206)

Items

Kenichi has no standalone notable item in the generated item catalog. His travel supplies and riding equipment are ordinary gear, while his black drake is a living partner rather than an item.
