Gareth
Gareth is a Royal-rank Blue Dragon librarian from Whiton Temple who studies unusual relic and awakening effects.
Biography
Studying a relic's effect on new Acolytes
Gareth meets Karl as a dragon librarian and demands a complete account of the group's unusual dungeon experience, reflecting the Blue Dragons' appetite for useful information. He then studies candidates affected by a relic, observing successful mage awakenings and distinguishing an ordinary enhancement potion from the much stronger transformation that Karl or Remi produced afterward. (Chapters 573, 578–580)
He reports that even incompatible candidates suffered no injuries or deaths and supplies precise geographic clarification during the investigation. Those findings narrow the risk attached to the relic's influence without claiming universal safety, and his value lies in careful observation and interpretation rather than custody of the relic itself. (Chapters 581–582)
Returning in human guise
Gareth later appears in an unfamiliar aging-human visage before shifting to the middle-aged librarian form Karl remembers. After delivering Acolytes, his disappointment at being excluded from a secret gives way to exuberant dancing with Cara and a decision to stay for dinner, revealing a sociable side beyond his formal research duties. (Chapters 699–700)
Appearance and personality
In dragon form Gareth has a massive head; in human guise he can shift between an aging man and a middle-aged librarian in a sharp blue suit. He is intensely curious, precise, and openly delighted by new knowledge and friendly company. (Chapters 573, 580, 699–700)
Abilities and class
Gareth is a Royal-rank Blue Dragon capable of adopting human appearances. The transformation changes his visible age and presentation, though the text provides no cost, duration, or combat application. (Chapters 590, 699)
As a librarian he evaluates relic compatibility, awakenings, and enhancement outcomes. These are research applications grounded in observation; no named combat spell or later power increase is recorded. (Chapters 579–582)
