Deve

Deve is a Druid guild leader in the Nara Group Guild Alliance. He helps turn the dangerous lake region into a cooperative training economy, supplies healing and tanking expertise to allied teams, and becomes one of the reliable Mythic defenders available when the wider community is threatened.

Biography

Alliance leadership turns scarce resources into shared strength

Deve is introduced explaining the Alliance's opportunity-bidding system to Karl and Dana. The lake region's constant monster spawns, dungeons, and unofficial conflict have made equipment and advancement opportunities valuable enough to fracture weaker organizations. Deve instead supports rules that keep useful gear circulating among five member guilds, allowing dozens of Totems and hundreds of Overlords to improve without every discovery becoming an internal fight. His authority rests as much on preserving cooperation as on commanding his own unnamed guild. (Chapter 1064)

That cooperative instinct also changes how Deve assesses people. Most Alliance healers are Druids studying under him, yet he is frustrated by the shortage of high-ranked mages and initially dismisses the region's rejected crafters as failures. Once he considers what the Darklight Host actually needs, he recognizes that those same specialists could thrive in a guild organized around production. He subsequently welcomes Karl and Dana as peers, proudly shows off newly made armor, and helps convert their crafting into shared Alliance capability rather than private advantage. (Chapters 1071, 1084, and 1089)

Mythic responsibility makes Deve the tank others need

By the time Karl returns to Nara, Deve has reached Mythic rank and is still recruiting tanks and healers because demand has grown faster than the Alliance's supply. In a prolonged boss fight he abandons Bear form when standing in melee is no longer the best contribution, attacks from range with [Earth Spikes], and applies poison because a normally inefficient damage-over-time effect becomes worthwhile against a durable target. The adjustment shows a Druid who treats forms and roles as tactical tools rather than identities he must preserve. (Chapters 1232 and 1238)

Deve's later service remains defensive. When clerics must travel openly into danger during a rescue operation, he joins the group as a tank precisely because their visibility makes them likely targets. His latest directly shown rank remains Mythic; the corpus does not establish a later advancement or a new class. What does progress is the scale of his obligation, from teaching his own healers to placing himself between an inter-guild rescue party and whatever finds it first. (Chapter 1437)

Appearance and personality

The corpus gives no reliable description of Deve's height, face, hair, or eyes. He wears casual clothing in social settings and commissions custom armor for field work, proudly planning to show the finished piece to his wife. His household is described as full of curious badger children, but the story does not specify whether this reflects his own species, his spouse's, adoption, or another family arrangement. (Chapters 1089, 1173, and 1220)

Deve is physically affectionate, sociable, and practical. He embraces Karl and Dana on their return and is comfortable enough with Cara for her to sit on his lap. His early contempt for rejected specialists reveals impatience and guild-leader cynicism, while his immediate change of mind when shown a workable placement reveals the more important trait: he values solutions over pride. In combat the same pragmatism makes him shift from tanking to ranged attrition when the encounter demands it. (Chapters 1071, 1084, 1113, and 1238)

Abilities and class

Deve is a Druid who advances from the Alliance's high-ranked leadership cohort to confirmed Mythic rank. Druids in his circle supply both tanks and healers, and many Alliance healers study under him, supporting substantial professional mastery even though the corpus does not name his full skill list. His class origin, initial awakening, and exact advancement conditions are not shown. (Chapters 1084 and 1232)

His principal transformation is Bear form, used for frontline durability. Deve can dismiss the form when range is safer or more useful; doing so lets him cast [Earth Spikes] and add poison damage over time. He explicitly treats ordinary poison as low damage for its mana cost, making it effective chiefly in long fights where repeated ticks can repay that cost. The corpus does not confirm that he possesses every Druid defensive skill discussed by other characters, including [Limited Invulnerability]. (Chapter 1238)

Deve can also summon Common-rank hawks for aerial reconnaissance. Druids can learn [Speak With Animals], and the party considers it likely that communication supports such scouting, but the scene does not directly confirm that Deve owns that skill. His latest demonstrated mastery therefore combines Mythic tanking, Druid healing leadership, earth and poison offense, shapeshifting, and low-rank scouting summons, with no sourced evidence of Immortal progression. (Chapter 1077)

Relationships

  • Karl and Dana: Deve treats the pair as Alliance friends, combat partners, and a source of crafting expertise that can strengthen all member guilds. (Chapters 1064, 1071, and 1238)
  • Hugo: Hugo is a fellow guild leader whose portals, golem training, and planning complement Deve's emphasis on healers and tanks. Together they help the Alliance distribute scarce capabilities. (Chapters 1064, 1084, and 1148)
  • Cara: Cara's physical familiarity with Deve and his badger-filled household place their connection beyond a purely formal guild acquaintance, though the corpus does not define a family tie between them. (Chapters 1113 and 1173)
  • His wife and family: Deve is married and takes visible pride in bringing home new armor; his house is full of curious badger children. Their names and exact relationships are not supplied. (Chapters 1089 and 1173)

Items

Deve has no standalone item in the scoped item catalog. He receives the Rare-grade, Immortal-rank Maul of Brutality, whose listed attack scales to 385 percent of base weapon physical damage and adds 80 percent of base Strength; he judges it stronger at base than his older Epic Totem weapon. His custom armor is also personally important, but neither possession has a generated item article. (Chapters 1089 and 1238)
