Emerald Tablet

The Emerald Tablet is an alchemical treasure from the Age of Mythology, praised by alchemists as the Gate or Door of Truth. The perfectly symmetrical emerald cube records truths of the universe and is Paragranum's central objective in Paracelsus's hidden laboratory.

History

Paragranum's objective

Paragranum asks Theodore Miller to help reach its creator's laboratory in the Meuse Desert, saying that it needs the Emerald Tablet and materials unavailable in the modern age. Gluttony immediately recognizes the relic's extraordinary value and objects to using it in Paragranum's plan to create a human body. The grimoire nevertheless promises Theodore the rest of the laboratory's accessible legacy in exchange for his cooperation. (Chapter 182)

Inside the laboratory, the Azoth Sword opens the separate dimensional space in which the Tablet is hidden. Paragranum retrieves a cube whose exact symmetry does not refract light like an ordinary gemstone and declares that it has accomplished its first purpose. The sword's role also confirms that giving it to Theodore earlier was a deliberate test: if he had not survived the laboratory guardian, Paragranum intended to recover the key and continue alone. Transfer to Theodore

Years later, Paragranum returns the Emerald Tablet to Theodore along with potions and catalysts before his campaign against Jerem and Nídhöggur. It explains that Nídhöggur's matter-rotting power is an enemy of alchemy and says that it has already made the copy it needs, so it no longer requires the original. The transfer is aid conditioned by the grimoire's purpose and its wager on Theodore's victory, not evidence of a general change to human loyalties. (Chapter 314)

Properties and limitations

• Recorded truth: The Tablet is said to preserve truths of the universe and is revered as the Gate of Truth. The corpus does not enumerate its complete contents or show Theodore mastering them directly. (Chapters 198 and 314)
• Alchemical importance: Paragranum considers it essential to the research tied to its purpose of obtaining a human body. Its value was already incalculable in the Age of Mythology and is beyond modern appraisal. (Chapters 182 and 199)
• Dimensional protection: The relic is stored in a sealed space within Paracelsus's laboratory that can be opened with the Azoth Sword. This security belongs to the laboratory rather than being demonstrated as the Tablet's own power. (Chapter 198)
• Copyability: Paragranum says it is not attached to the original after producing a copy. The corpus does not specify how complete that copy is or what subsequent experiment uses it. (Chapter 314)
• Noncombat role: Gluttony explicitly says the Tablet is not designed as a weapon and is unlikely to cause mass fatalities by itself. That judgment does not make every possible alchemical application harmless. (Chapter 182)
