Eight Jade Magatamas

The Eight Jade Magatamas are one of the three divine artifacts stored in Abe no Seimei's shrine. Their defining power is the creation of independent bodies or clones. After they choose Theodore Miller, the jewels let Seimei's soul fragment act beside him and later divide Theodore's own combat power across several simultaneous bodies.

History

Seimei's second body

Seimei identifies the magatamas as part of the inheritance Theodore needs for the war against Lust. The three shrine artifacts awaken after Theodore passes the Heaven, Earth, and Person test and assimilate into him. Moments later, Seimei uses the magatamas' immediate effect to emerge as a separate, visible body, proving his identity to his Japanese descendants and allowing him and Theodore to work independently. (Chapters 358 and 360–361)

This body remains a limited projection. Seimei explains that he is still only a soul fragment and cannot move far from Theodore. The jewels give that fragment physical independence without restoring the complete person who died centuries earlier. (Chapter 362)

Clones against the heavenly demon

Theodore later calculates that the magatamas can create seven clones for simultaneous ultimate magic. In the final struggle with the heavenly demon, the eight jewels respond to his will and divide his combat presence, enabling a coordinated Dao Yuan Nine Palace formation and distributing the strain of his techniques. Their support is substantial but not limitless: even after the jewels take more than half the burden of Grand Cross, both they and the Heavenly Sword suffer catastrophic damage. The Eight Jade Magatamas shatter completely in the victory. Seimei's separated soul returns to Gluttony once it is removed from Suzuka's body, and Theodore later tells Suzuka that no jewel remains to return to the shrine. (Chapters 376–377 and 379)

Abilities and limitations

• Independent embodiment: The magatamas can give a soul fragment or projected self a separate body. Seimei can act and speak independently but cannot travel far from Theodore in that state. (Chapters 361–362)
• Seven-clone formation: Theodore can create seven additional selves, supplying the bodies needed to operate a multi-position ultimate technique. The clones remain expressions of one user's divided power rather than seven new permanent people. (Chapters 371 and 375)
• Burden distribution: The jewels absorb more than half the strain of Grand Cross, reducing the direct cost to Theodore and his other artifact. The effort destroys them despite that protective function. (Chapter 376)
• Chosen-user assimilation: The set enters Theodore's body together with the Heavenly Sword and Eight Mirrors after the shrine's trial recognizes him. The corpus does not show the jewels granting the same control to an unqualified claimant. (Chapters 360–361)
• Consumable durability: Their divine rank does not protect them from an attack beyond their tolerance; all eight break in the heavenly-demon battle. (Chapters 376–379)
