Simon Magus is a legendary ninth-circle magician and former contractor of Gluttony whose surviving record teaches Theodore Miller how to cross the boundary of transcendence.

Biography

East Continent and the Northern War

Simon first enters the contemporary narrative as a historical standard for magic beyond the current age. The surviving references establish his reputation but no present action, and they do not imply that the living Simon has returned. His meaningful intervention occurs later through material preserved by Gluttony. (Chapter 301)

Prometheus and the Eastern Apocalypse

Theodore spends an immense stock of Gluttony's achievement points to call a Simon Magus soul record against the transcendents collected and released by Sloth. This manifestation uses Dimensional Banish and simultaneously berates Theodore into understanding Abraxas as the means to break his mortal “egg.” The advice enables Theodore's awakening, after which Simon identifies himself as a former Gluttony contractor who reached the ninth circle independently and failed at a later crossroads. He is explicit that the speaking figure is debris preserved in the grimoire, not the restored living magician. (Chapters 348 and 350–353)

Marriage, Armageddon, and the New World

Inside the Akashic Records, another continuity of Simon persists as an assimilated investigator: an ego-like part of the cosmic archive, not a free material-world body. He rallies other absorbed investigators to help Theodore reform after his dissolution and challenges Akashic's assumption that a finite self cannot return. Later, Theodore uses Simon's dimensional banishment method against Gluttony. The act draws on learned technique; it does not summon Simon from the archive or establish his resurrection. Appearance and personality

The summoned Simon appears as a man whose overwhelming presence and cold, contemptuous manner match his legendary status. He is abrasive, impatient, and fond of insults, yet his abuse contains carefully priced instruction meant to make Theodore discover the answer himself.
