Ultruk

Ultruk is an orc leader assigned to Waylan's team during the allied infiltration of Inferno.

Biography

Inferno infiltration and death

Waylan pairs himself with Ultruk when the infiltration teams divide, trusting the orc to meet duergar resistance head-on. Ultruk clears lesser enemies with his axe and then joins the fight against Durara, at times gaining the upper hand despite severe fatigue. The shifting battle and arrival of another elder leave the group outmatched. Durara ultimately stands over Ultruk, burns and dishevelled, and drives her staff through his heart. His death deepens Waylan's despair during Ren's apparent sacrifice and is remembered afterward when Caïssa identifies Durara as his killer. (Chapters 347–365)

Appearance and personality

Ultruk has the imposing build expected of an orc front-line leader and fights in direct, classic orc fashion. His dialogue is sparse, but his willingness to take the hardest position beside Waylan establishes courage and battlefield reliability. (Chapters 347–354)

Powers and abilities

He wields a heavy axe and meets duergar attacks head-on with force sufficient to shake the air. Ultruk can threaten Durara and clear groups of enemies, but accumulated injuries and stronger opposing elders exhaust him, allowing Durara to kill him at close range. (Chapters 348–355)

• Waylan Roshfield: Waylan selects Ultruk as his partner and is distressed by his death (Chapters 347–359).
• Durara: The duergar elder fights and kills Ultruk with her staff (Chapters 350–359).
