Bloodedge

Bloodedge is a sentient sword designed by the Seer for Nux. Presented as a weapon that could scale to opponents of any level, it later proves to be both the means by which the Infinities invade Nux's Domain and the anomalous connection that lets his surviving will reach the Multiverse.

History

The Seer's second gift

After taking one of Nux's existing weapons, the Seer offers Bloodedge in exchange. Its obsidian blade is threaded with crimson veins, and merely touching it exposes Nux to an ominous energy. The Seer calls it a True Relic and then an Absolute Relic: a weapon too energetically costly for ordinary wielders, but one that should cut any target if its wielder can supply the required power and land the blow. Nux accepts because his universe gives him energy reserves suited to that otherwise prohibitive demand. He blood-binds himself to the sword, after which its consciousness and constant energy drain become perceptible to him. (Chapters 1950–1952)

Nux first uses Bloodedge as a serious weapon in the Temple of Time, where one strike splits the Eternity Warden and prevents its normal regeneration until the trial's time reversal restores it. He later feeds half of his accumulated energy into the sword to sever Vexarion's arm from outside the Eternal's awareness. That attack demonstrates Bloodedge's capacity to harm an Eternal, but also its limits as a victory condition: Vexarion restores the arm after deploying his Domain, and Nux acknowledges that damaging an Eternal is not the same as defeating one. The concealed connection

During Nux's confrontation with Zylarith, he charges Bloodedge for a strike intended to destroy an Infinity's soul. Instead of completing the attack, the sword connects the Chaos inside Nux's Domain to the Main Universe's Chaos. The resulting opening lets Ul'Thakar, Seraphielle, Equarios, and Orravyn enter. Nux recognizes that the function was deliberate and that the Seer had arranged the gift to force the confrontation that would erase him. When he tries to destroy the sword after abandoning his Domain, Bloodedge turns into blood-red mist and disappears, although their connection remains. (Chapters 2355–2357)

That surviving connection becomes Nux's only sensation after the Infinities erase his body, soul, Laws, and ordinary bonds. Bloodedge provides an opening toward the Multiverse, but cannot make a bodiless will move; Nux crosses it only after developing his understanding of Anomaly beyond that restriction. The Seer later explains that inter-universal connection, rather than unlimited cutting, is Bloodedge's hidden ability. It requires a medium: the Seer's connection to the soul of Avernyth Eternity supplied that bridge, while the immense energy Bloodedge had absorbed from Nux powered the opening. The plan was a gamble rather than a guaranteed rescue, since the Seer did not know whether Nux's remaining consciousness could use the path. (Chapters 2366–2377)

Avernyth's release

The Seer's final account reveals that she had taken over an earlier Avernyth's body and used Avernyth's soul to create Bloodedge, arranging for that soul to enter the sword when Zylarith killed her. This explains both the relic's exceptional strength and why its connection survived an erasure that removed Nux's normal possessions and bonds: Bloodedge was an intervention that should not have existed in the fixed timeline. After returning, Nux brings out the sword and, with the Seer's permission to act on Avernyth rather than on the Seer's new identity, frees Avernyth's soul and sends her into his universe's reincarnation cycle. Bloodedge is not stated to be destroyed, but the text does not establish what functions remain without its resident soul. (Chapters 2376–2377 and 2402)

Abilities and properties

• Bloodedge forms a blood connection when its point touches the prospective wielder's forehead and absorbs that blood. Once linked, it continuously consumes the wielder's energy even while stored. Its consciousness can respond through vibrations and communicates recognizable moods to Nux, though the corpus does not give it independent speech. (Chapters 1951–1952)
• The Seer claims that a connected strike can cut any being or defensive relic, including Eternals and Infinities, provided enough energy is supplied. Demonstrated uses sever an Eternity Warden and an Eternal's arm; the intended Infinity-killing strike is interrupted by the sword's hidden function, so the highest claim is not directly demonstrated. • Its cost scales with the target. According to the Seer, killing a Primordial requires roughly twice a normal Primordial's energy, a Transcendent requires about a Transcendent's full reserve, an Eternal about half an Eternal's reserve, and an Infinity about one tenth of an Infinity's reserve. A miss wastes the charged energy, while simply holding the sword can quickly exhaust an ordinary Complete Sovereign. These figures are the Seer's explanation rather than independent measurements. • The sword's cutting effect does not supply the speed, access, or battlefield control needed to make contact. Nor does an injury automatically defeat a wielder of a restorative Domain, as Vexarion demonstrates. Those are limitations of the wielder and target interaction, not failures of the blade's edge. • Its concealed ability connects Universes when a suitable medium and enough stored energy exist. It uses matched Chaos to breach Nux's Domain, and later uses the Seer/Avernyth connection to establish a path from the post-erasure void to the Multiverse. The exact range of eligible media and whether the function remains after Avernyth's release are not stated. (Chapters 2355–2377 and 2402)

Ownership and custody
