Zyros
Zyros was a Primordial Etheryn mercenary whose ranged abilities made him the tactical core of a group that attacked Nux. His attempt to exploit Nux's unfamiliarity with a new body ended in capture, prolonged soul torture, and a coerced final duel with Vyriana.
Biography
The failed mercenary assault
Zyros entered the battle as a calculating ranged combatant, coordinating with Vrakor and the other Primordials while identifying that Nux lacked full control of his body. He urged the party to maintain fast, coordinated pressure and used Piercing Reality to threaten Nux's remaining access to regeneration, teleportation, and Laws. As his allies fell and the party ceased to exist as a viable force, however, Zyros chose escape rather than continue a lost fight. Nux anticipated that decision and isolated him. (Chapters 1769–1772)
Zyros activated Astral Anchoring, believing its defense against overwhelming force made him untouchable. Nux had inherited knowledge of Etheryn weaknesses and used Soul Severance instead of physical force, separating Zyros's soul from a body left partially dead. In soul form Zyros could neither use his abilities nor his Law, and the residual bond to his captured body prevented escape. His tactical judgment had been sound against an unfamiliar opponent, but failed against knowledge specifically developed to counter his race. (Chapters 1772–1774)
Captivity and the coerced duel
Nux imprisoned Zyros's conscious soul in the Core and subjected it to uninterrupted pain through roughly one hundred thousand embedded pins. After years of torture, Zyros had lost ordinary emotional responses and reacted to permanent death as freedom. Nux offered that release only if Zyros fought Vyriana and won, while threatening renewed torture if he lost or refused. Zyros accepted under this coercion, was returned to his withered body, and fought desperately because victory appeared to be his only route out. (Chapters 1804–1806)
Zyros's arrows injured Vyriana and his combinations of Voidstep and Piercing Reality forced her to answer seriously, but he was outmatched by her physical strength, Absolute Law, and Primordial Dragon body. Even after she shattered his core, fear of returning to captivity drove him to stand and invoke Astral Anchoring. Vyriana exploited the ability's weakness to pulling force and tore off his head. Zyros thanked her at the moment of death, making his final relief inseparable from the torture that had stripped the duel of meaningful consent. (Chapters 1807–1808)
Appearance and personality
Zyros is identified as an Etheryn whose eyes and internal core network shine blue when his body is active. His first expression is one of cold calculation; after captivity, his eyes are hollow and his body withered until Nux restores his soul to it. The corpus provides no reliable hair, clothing, or precise facial description. (Chapters 1769 and 1805–1806)
He is observant, tactical, and initially disciplined enough to identify an opponent's weakness during combat. That composure gives way to fear when his allies die, and prolonged torture later breaks his will so comprehensively that death becomes his sole motivation. His final violence against Vyriana is therefore demonstrated effort under coercion, not evidence that he recovered his earlier confidence. (Chapters 1770–1774 and 1805–1808)
Abilities and cultivation
Voidstring Archery and mobility
Voidstring Archery draws on the Void's energy to form Zyros's bow and arrows. These are innate energy constructs rather than carried items: destruction is temporary because an Etheryn can reform them while alive. His arrows can alter course to pursue a target, explode with enough force to disintegrate a Primordial's hand, and multiply into thousands of projectiles, although the mass volley proved much weaker than his focused attacks. Voidstep lets him teleport between firing positions for multi-angle attacks. The corpus does not quantify the abilities' range or individual energy cost. (Chapters 1769 and 1807)
Piercing Reality
Piercing Reality is an Etheryn arrow technique that severs a target's connection to power, disabling abilities and sealing a Law. It can work through contact with a severed limb, but travels more slowly than Zyros's ordinary arrows. Nux avoided it through teleportation, while Vyriana used overwhelming force to knock a coordinated volley out of the air before it connected. These are demonstrated counters; the duration of a successful seal is not established. (Chapters 1771–1772 and 1807)
Astral Anchoring
Astral Anchoring fixes Zyros to the fabric of space. While supplied with energy, it redirects pushing force into the surroundings and prevents physical displacement or destruction, allowing him to remain intact against attacks that could devastate the terrain around him. It is strongest when allies can attack while he maintains the defense; alone, he can be restrained and waited out. (Chapters 1772 and 1808)
The ability has two demonstrated hard counters. Soul Severance bypasses its physical protection by separating body and soul, and pulling force is not redirected: Vyriana immobilized Zyros's arm, then pulled his head from his body. Astral Anchoring therefore was not invulnerability, and its last use ended in his death. (Chapters 1773 and 1808)
Relationships
- Nux: Zyros helped attack Nux and nearly disabled his powers, after which Nux captured and tortured his soul. Nux's offer of death conditioned Zyros's final actions and left him terrified of any return to captivity. (Chapters 1769–1774 and 1804–1808)
- Vyriana: Zyros had earlier injured Vyriana in the mercenary ambush. He later faced her in a coerced duel, damaged her again with Void arrows, and ultimately thanked her when she killed him. (Chapters 1769, 1806–1808)
- Vrakor and the mercenary party: Zyros directed the group's ranged tactics, but fled once the party collapsed. His attacks also struck Vrakor after Nux redirected or evaded them, illustrating how thoroughly their coordination failed. (Chapters 1769–1772)
Items
Zyros has no established personal item. His bow and arrows are temporary Voidstring constructs produced by an ability, not inventory. (Chapter 1769)
