Zharak
Zharak is a mantis-like Transcendent mercenary partnered with Nixgut in a plot against Nux's wives. More aggressive than his calculating partner, he repeatedly attacks after the trap is clear, then is devoured and remade into one of Nux's Transcendent-level subordinates.
Biography
From hired rescuer to captured weapon
Zharak and Nixgut receive a suspicious call from the missing Marlik. Nixgut sees a trap; Zharak agrees but argues that refusing their employer guarantees death while entering only risks it. The pair therefore answer despite knowing that an unknown force has likely captured the first mercenary. (Chapter 1957)
When Marlik demands submission, Zharak tries to cut him apart during Nixgut's distraction. Nux's unseen spatial control teleports Zharak through trees and ground faster than he can recover, while Nixgut is held hostage. Even after the torture pauses, Zharak attacks again, forcing Nixgut to deploy Absolute Confinement and bind his own partner. (Chapters 1958–1959)
Nixgut eventually accepts Nux's offer for both of them. Nux devours the pair, removes their ability to form Domains inside his universe, reads their memories, and plans the same loyalty treatment already used on Marlik. By Chapter 1967, Zharak, Nixgut, and Marlik appear together as loyal Transcendents supporting Eisheth's demand that Varos surrender. (Chapters 1960–1961 and 1967)
Appearance and personality
Zharak is a four-meter-tall mantis-like being with a thin green body, two long legs, yellow eyes, and arms ending in blades. (Chapter 1957)
He is aggressive, proud of his strength, loyal enough to avoid endangering Nixgut during the initial hostage situation, and quick to choose probable danger over certain punishment. Repeated attacks also show less caution than his partner. (Chapters 1957–1959)
Abilities and cultivation
Zharak is a Transcendent close-range fighter described as stronger and faster than Marlik and the strongest of the three mercenaries before Nux's intervention. His bladed arms function as natural weapons, and his speed supports sudden dismembering strikes. (Chapters 1957–1958)
The corpus does not name Zharak's Law, show his Domain, or explain its activation and limits. Nux's control teleports him before he can respond and later suppresses his right to form a Domain, so those defeats occur under authority that bypasses a normal duel. (Chapters 1958–1960)
Relationships
- Nixgut: Zharak's recurring partner and tactical complement. They coordinate an ambush instinctively, but Nixgut ultimately binds him to secure survival for both. (Chapters 1957–1960)
- Marlik: Zharak initially mocks and attacks Marlik, then later serves beside him after all three become Nux's subordinates. (Chapters 1957–1960 and 1967)
- Nux: Nux controls Zharak without appearing, devours him, reads his memories, and converts him into a family weapon. (Chapters 1958–1961 and 1967)
- Eisheth: Eisheth presents Zharak and the other Transcendents as overwhelming enforcement when demanding Varos's surrender. (Chapter 1967)
Items
Zharak carries a call artifact, spatial transport artifact, and storage equipment associated with the mercenary mission. Nux confiscates relevant artifacts after devouring the pair; none is individually cataloged. (Chapters 1957–1961)
