Vidyut Dore is the King-stage general who commands the Woods Army after the dynasty loses two previous generals. He initially questions whether Ember can command his soldiers, but her ability to restore their morale makes him accept a supporting role in the counteroffensive against Solid Earth.

Biography

Yielding command to the army's former general

Vidyut has only recently become general when the Skyfall delegation arrives at a crisis point: Solid Earth has breached the first defensive line, Ravenhill holds half as many active soldiers as the attacking force, and the exhausted army has lost morale. He objects when Ember makes obedience to her command a condition of Skyfall's aid, not simply to defend his rank but because an army cannot be handed to a stranger by treaty and expected to follow. Once the Woods leadership accepts her condition, he behaves as host and commander, takes the women to Ravenhill, gives them an unvarnished account of the worsening situation, and instructs his officers to treat them with his own authority. Ember's first address answers Vidyut's objection more decisively than negotiation could. Veteran soldiers recognize their former general, and even new recruits respond to the confidence she restores. Vidyut is unsettled that he has never drawn the same light from them, then realizes who she is and does not obstruct her restructuring of the army. He keeps watch while the soldiers rest, stands with a reserve force behind Solid Earth's trapped troops, and remains outside the central fight so that any retreating enemy generals must pass a fresh King-stage opponent. After the victory, Vidyut is entrusted with the Woods half of a combined search expedition into the Bloodhill Wilderness. He meets the Skyfall party at Bringer Village, declines unnecessary rest, and leads his force into the outer region immediately. Appearance and personality

Vidyut is a King-stage cultivator and his presence gives the defending soldiers psychological support.
