Varena
Varena is an Emperor-stage Succubus who accompanies Aisha, then traveling as Erotica, on her expedition to the Forgotten Continent. Curious and irreverent in ordinary conversation, she becomes fiercely protective when Aisha appears to be in danger.
Biography
The expedition's last months on the Forgotten Continent
Varena first appears among the demons whom Aisha warns away from Nux. She is curious about the unusually powerful human and asks for his appearance under the practical pretext of identifying a threat, but Aisha immediately recognizes the interest behind the question. Varena accepts the order after Aisha suppresses even the expedition's Emperor-stage Succubi, though she later jokes about sharing Nux and admits that seduction interests her more than sparring. Her obedience is pragmatic—she treats Aisha's displeasure as a genuine danger—yet she remains comfortable teasing her leader in private. The corpus alternates the spellings Varena, Verana, and Varene for this same Succubus in the continuous scene. (Chapters 692–693)
When volatile mana floods the continent, Varena cultivates through the opportunity beside Maya. Both make enormous progress but fail to complete the final step to Sage before the mana density falls; Aisha estimates that the gain reduces decades of work to roughly three or four more years. Varena then asks to test her improved strength against Nux. He reaches behind her before she can perceive his movement, demonstrating that he is a useless measuring standard for her rather than beginning a formal bout. She watches his later spar with Aisha, but when Aisha collapses, loyalty overrides judgment: Varena and Maya attack immediately. Varena casts Destruction even though Maya is inside its blast, then cannot defend herself from Nux's wives after the large spell. Nux protects Maya, blocks the retaliation against Varena, and explains that Aisha was merely unconscious. Faced with both her mistake and the difference in strength, Varena apologizes twice rather than continuing the fight. (Chapters 696, 699, and 703–705)
Varena travels with the group into the Demon Continent, where Aisha's royal identity becomes public. She helps explain the protection attached to that identity, handles an entry token at the Misery State border, and later stays with Maya and the other demons to settle the migrants while Aisha brings Nux's family into the residence. Maline praises Varena and Maya for returning her sister safely. Her last appearance leaves her alive in the Lust State, still stronger than before the mana wave but not explicitly a Sage. (Chapters 706–712)
Appearance and personality
Varena is identified as a Succubus, but the corpus supplies no individualized hair color, eye color, clothing, apparent age, wings, horns, or other physical description for her. The source also notes that Succubi can alter their appearances, but never demonstrates Varena doing so. (Chapters 692–693, 710)
She is curious, playful, lazy about combat when no personal stake exists, and openly interested in attractive men. That ease disappears when Aisha falls: Varena attacks without asking what happened and accepts a risk to Maya in her urgency. Her later apology and acknowledgment that Nux had every right to dismiss her strength show that she can recognize a serious error once the immediate panic passes. (Chapters 692–705)
Abilities and cultivation
Emperor-stage Succubus cultivation
Varena is an Emperor-stage cultivator throughout her appearances. During the continent-wide mana wave she absorbs enough power to approach Sage, but Aisha judges that both Varena and Maya fail the last step once the exceptional mana density subsides. The source estimates another three or four years under ordinary conditions; it does not later confirm that this prediction is fulfilled. Sex Demons are described as having strong mana control relative to other demons, but Varena's personal cultivation method, affinity, bloodline ability, reserves, and close-combat skill are not explained. (Chapters 692, 696, and 699)
Destruction
Varena prepares Destruction while Maya occupies Nux in melee, then activates it by speaking its name. A giant magic circle forms beneath Nux and a large explosion engulfs both him and Maya. Nux escapes and carries Maya out, so the spell demonstrates an area blast capable of endangering an allied Emperor but no successful damage against its intended target. Casting such a large spell leaves Varena unprepared for immediate retaliation, establishing a practical opening after use. The source gives no element, exact radius, preparation time, mana cost, cooldown, maximum range, or later variant, and Varena never casts it again. (Chapter 705)
Varena also proposes sparring and can follow the movements of other Emperor-stage combatants, but Nux reaches her blind spot before she can react and no complete personal melee exchange occurs. Her demonstrated specialty therefore remains spellcasting rather than a quantified physical or weapon skill. (Chapters 703–705)
Relationships
- Aisha: Varena serves Aisha during the expedition, fears the authority hidden behind her Erotica identity, and nevertheless teases her about Nux. Her impulsive attack when Aisha collapses and Maline's later praise establish genuine protectiveness beneath that irreverence. (Chapters 692–712)
- Maya: Maya and Varena are fellow Emperor-stage Succubi who cultivate, travel, and serve Aisha together. Varena endangers Maya with Destruction in a panic, then immediately asks after her and helps carry her away once Nux confirms she is safe. (Chapters 692–712)
- Nux: Varena is initially curious about Nux and later tries to use him as a test of her growth. His speed prevents the test, and his effortless control of her panicked attack makes her reassess the gap between them and apologize. (Chapters 692–705)
- Maline: Maline credits Varena and Maya with protecting Aisha on the expedition. Varena bows to her as a superior; no more personal bond is shown. (Chapter 712)
Items
No named weapon, artifact, armor, or other significant personal possession is established for Varena. The border token she presents is associated with Aisha's royal party rather than identified as Varena's property. (Chapter 710)
