Vajra

Vajra is a veteran warrior in Nexus whose unusual eye lets him observe events across a long distance and through intervening structures. He initially mocks Nux as a doomed newcomer, then spends decades fearing the man after Nux notices his surveillance effortlessly.

Biography

The watcher Nux watched back

Vajra joins the crowd dismissing Nux's calm entrance to Nexus. From a distance, he watches Nux destroy the gang that tries to prey on him and realizes too late that the supposed newcomer has known he was there. Nux's warning that an observer may be mistaken for an accomplice leaves Vajra terrified even after Nux walks away with no intention of pursuing him. (Chapters 1697–1700)

More than fifty years later, Vajra again watches Nux in the mercenary hall and recognizes him only after Nux recalls their first encounter. Nux asks how his eye sees so far and possibly through walls, but Vajra refuses to explain rather than boast before someone whose perception exceeds his own. When Nux's attention shifts to Riona, Vajra quietly leaves and runs. (Chapter 1711)

Appearance and personality

Vajra is a three-meter-tall giant with purple skin, a muscular frame, metallic spikes along his forearms, and one large purple eye centered on his forehead instead of an ordinary pair. (Chapter 1697)

He is experienced, mocking toward apparently weak newcomers, and capable of recovering from fear enough to seek an escape. His repeated curiosity overrides caution, while his final withdrawal shows he values survival more than pride. (Chapters 1697–1711)
