Marcus
Marcus is one of the Solid Earth Kingdom's four senior generals during its war with the Woods Dynasty. More cautious than his fellow conspirators, he repeatedly notices that their intelligence is incomplete, but remains part of the invasion and dies when the pursuit he warned about becomes an ambush.
Biography
Doubts inside the invasion plan
Marcus enters a council debating an assassin's attack on General Armando. He rejects Fredgelord's insinuation that Armando must be involved, reasoning that an assassin able to escape six Kings and an army would not need to time the attack around one officer's absence. When Ember unexpectedly resigns, Marcus again asks for the missing cause and senses that advancing their plan under unexplained conditions may be dangerous. (Chapters 353–354)
The council proceeds despite those warnings. During the later chase of the Woods Army, Marcus is the first Solid Earth general to identify seven waiting King Stage cultivators and argues for retreat. The army is already too far from its gate and being encircled. His caution therefore arrives at the correct conclusion but cannot undo his participation in the campaign. (Chapters 573–574)
Marcus becomes the first of the four generals removed from the battle. Thyra's concealment lets her isolate and kill him, making his fate the example Armando uses to keep the survivors from separating. The supplied corpus gives Marcus no later revival or alternate-continuity return. (Chapters 574–575)
Appearance and personality
The corpus identifies Marcus as an experienced male general but does not provide a stable description of his face, hair, clothing, armor, or build. His presentation is defined primarily through disciplined speech in military councils. (Chapters 353–354)
He is cautious, analytical, and less vulnerable to provocation than Fredgelord expects. Those traits do not make him an opponent of the war: he continues serving the invasion and only calls for retreat once the tactical trap is visible. (Chapters 353–354 and 573–575)
Abilities and cultivation
Marcus is a King Stage cultivator and senior army commander. The battle treats him as one of four powerful generals who must be isolated rather than faced carelessly, but he receives no named technique, weapon, element, Domain, or complete duel. His death demonstrates that Thyra's assassination can bypass his awareness, not a quantified upper limit for every King. (Chapters 573–575)
His clearest ability is tactical assessment: he evaluates assassination evidence, questions incomplete intelligence, identifies the enemy Kings, and recognizes the need to retreat. These are learned military judgments rather than supernatural foresight. (Chapters 353–354 and 573–574)
Relationships
- Armando: Marcus defends Armando against an unsupported accusation and later follows his instruction within the group of surviving generals. (Chapters 353 and 575)
- Fredgelord: Fredgelord tries to provoke Marcus and then helps press the pursuit Marcus recognizes as dangerous. Their alliance is professional rather than affectionate. (Chapters 353–354 and 573–575)
- Thyra: Thyra uses concealment to isolate and kill Marcus during the ambush, turning him into the warning that keeps the other generals together. (Chapters 574–575)
