Arvina

Arvina Skyfall is a swordswoman, former vice headmaster of the Royal Academy, and one of Nux Leander's earliest combat teachers. Her decision to refine his improvised fighting style gives him a technical foundation that persists after he surpasses her, while her refusal to enter a relationship with him becomes a defining example of choosing social and personal boundaries over acknowledged desire.

Biography

The vice headmaster behind the throne's protection

Arvina first enters Nux's plans before she appears in person. Amaya identifies her as the one person outside the king's immediate circle likely to know the hidden protector Astaria Skyfall, reasoning that Astaria's protection explains why Ricardus has not forced Arvina into his bed despite claiming her as a royal consort. At the Royal Academy, Arvina is a 102-year-old Expert Stage cultivator, vice headmaster, and noted swordswoman. Her first direct role is to referee Nux's cultivation-restricted duel with her personal student Candice. Candice's arrogance and decision to use Mana after losing disappoint Arvina; Nux's disciplined opportunism, by contrast, makes her test him for herself. (Chapters 203 and 259–265)

The spar reveals what Nux's disguise conceals. Arvina notices that his eyes register threats faster than his allegedly weaker body can answer them, correctly infers suppressed cultivation, and presses him for the truth in private. When he reveals himself as an eighteen-year-old Grand Master with exceptional affinity for four elements, she understands both his potential and the danger disclosure would create. She accepts him as a personal student, promises to keep the secret, and becomes stricter rather than indulgent: his talent makes her determined to polish him before complacency can become permanent. Nux learns Arvina's repertoire in days and spends the next weeks integrating it into his own flexible style. Arvina recognizes that he does not merely imitate individual moves; he changes them to fit a method in which swords, daggers, fists, improvised attacks, and deception all serve victory. His progress lets him spar with her for hours and eventually reveals that he has already reached Expert Stage. That new disclosure changes her concern from instruction to survival. She tells him about Astaria, admits that the royal family might eliminate a prodigy who could become an Emperor before it could secure his loyalty, and offers to fake his death so he can cultivate in hiding. Her willingness to oppose her own teacher for her student turns their relationship from opportunistic recruitment into genuine loyalty. (Chapters 266–290)

A mentor who demanded a reason to rule

Arvina refuses to flatter Nux when he proposes becoming king. She points out that overthrowing a dynasty would leave nobles, foreign enemies, and ordinary people inside the resulting chaos, and that raw strength does not answer why he should rule or what he would do afterward. Seeing that his rapid advancement has let his maturity lag behind his power, she offers him a place in the Woods–Solid Earth war under Ember Windstar. The assignment is not a disposal attempt: she gives him her badge, selects an ally whose judgment she trusts, and wants real responsibility to force him to confront consequences. Nux accepts after consulting his family. The war supplies the answer Arvina demanded—he wants freedom and enough authority to keep his loved ones from being used as hostages—and he later credits her question and assignment with making him find it. When Nux returns as a King Stage cultivator, the power balance between them has reversed, but Arvina continues teaching because his form can still improve. She shelters Ember, permits Nux's wives to live in her estate, and sides with him when Headmaster Eliyard discovers the arrangement, even as his ability to subdue the King Stage headmaster exposes how little of his power she truly understands. Her mansion becomes a temporary refuge and base, placing her between her obligations to the academy and the people she has chosen to protect. That conflict is personal as well as political: when Ember asks whether she would choose Astaria or Nux if they fought, Arvina cannot give an immediate answer, but insists the confrontation is not inevitable. Nux eventually proposes to Arvina after revealing that Evane and Allura have become his wives. Arvina rejects the teacher-student relationship and her nominal marriage as boundaries she will not cross. When he presses for the personal reason beneath those objections, she says that she does not see him as a man she could love. Nux accepts the answer and withdraws in genuine pain. Arvina immediately worries for him and later seeks out Evane, whose own choice to marry a former student forces Arvina to confront the difference between social discomfort and desire. The narrative later states that Arvina did love Nux but suppressed those feelings; that is a later characterization of her choice, not a confession she makes to him. Leaving the old continent and choosing a separate road

Arvina leaves the Forgotten Continent with Nux's wider group when the barrier falls. During the voyage she speaks proudly of having contributed to his development, acknowledging that direct instruction has passed to Astaria and that Nux is now far beyond her. She also advises Aisha that Nux treats intimacy as a marital commitment rather than casual sex, showing that even after rejecting him she understands the values governing his relationships. Her position is therefore neither that of an estranged enemy nor one of his wives: she remains a respected former teacher who travels under the protection of the family she helped shape. Once ExceedoGenesis is established, Arvina arrives with the thousand migrants selected from the old continent and greets Nux as her former student. The later account of her fate says that after reaching Yrniel she left to “find her own path.” Riona invokes that decision when explaining why she refused to suppress her own feelings, while Thyra reacts without sympathy; neither woman supplies Arvina's destination, cultivation after departure, or present allegiance. Nux later treats the rejection as a matter outside his control and says he does not regret giving Arvina the space she chose. (Chapters 869, 1269, and 1373)

Much later, Nux encounters alternate universes containing other versions of Arvina, some of whom join wars during a reality collision and often die because they are comparatively weak. Those are alternate-timeline counterparts, not evidence that the main-continuity Arvina returned or died. The main Arvina's latest established state remains her independent departure in Yrniel; the corpus does not resolve where that path led. (Chapters 2011 and 2014)

Appearance and personality

Arvina is introduced with light-blonde hair, brown-red or fiery eyes, sword-like eyebrows, and a mature, stern beauty. Her appearance and bearing reinforce her reputation as a warrior rather than a court ornament. She commonly uses a wooden sword while teaching and changes to real weapons and Mana only when a student's fundamentals justify more dangerous practice. (Chapters 259, 266, and 288)

She is perceptive, disciplined, protective, and blunt enough to challenge a gifted student's ambitions rather than reward them automatically. Arvina detects Nux's concealed strength from a mismatch in his reactions, accepts dirty tactics even when she dislikes them, and takes responsibility for both Candice's negligence and Nux's safety. She is also strongly constrained by her understanding of propriety. That restraint lets her preserve boundaries important to her, but the later narrative frames her refusal of Nux as self-denial that leaves her searching for a separate path. Her pride in having taught him survives that regret. (Chapters 266–268, 288–292, 708, and 1269)

Abilities and cultivation

Cultivation and combat perception

Arvina is an Expert Stage Mana Cultivator at her direct introduction and is explicitly a King Stage cultivator by the voyage to Yrniel. The corpus does not describe the breakthrough between those stages, assign her a Law, bloodline transformation, or Domain, or state a later realm after she leaves. Claims that she reached Emperor, Saint, or a still higher stage would therefore go beyond the supplied evidence. (Chapters 259 and 708)

Her clearest demonstrated gift is technical perception. By watching how Nux's eyes and body respond during a cultivation-restricted spar, she detects that his senses belong to a stronger body than the one he is presenting. She later identifies his fatigue problem alongside Astaria: his stamina is exceptional, but once exhausted he begins wasting force, missing feints, and making beginner errors because he lacks experience fighting while tired. These are trained observations rather than supernatural mind-reading, and they can diagnose a weakness without automatically supplying the power needed to correct it. (Chapters 266–267 and 558)

Swordsmanship and instruction

Arvina teaches a progressive sword curriculum. She begins with repeatable movements, requires mastery before advancing, and uses Mana-restricted wooden-sword spars to isolate technique from cultivation. Once Nux has integrated the movements into his own style, she proposes real swords, Mana, and skills so that he can learn how an actual swordsman fights under lethal conditions. Her method emphasizes reading an intelligent opponent, anticipating counters, avoiding wasted motion, and using timing rather than merely reproducing fixed forms. (Chapters 265–268 and 282–288)

As a combatant she can change attack lines, exploit committed limbs, and place a blade at an opponent's neck before his planned combination develops. Nux quickly surpasses her stamina and cultivation, so their later spars demonstrate the durability of her instruction more clearly than her maximum destructive scale. The sources never name a personal sword technique, Aura, Law, or unique weapon for her. Her latest demonstrated legacy is indirect: Nux says her teachings remain ingrained in him even after Astaria becomes the teacher who can take him farther. (Chapters 266, 288, 558, and 708)

Leadership and judgment

Arvina's academy position gives her authority over students, staff, housing, and protected access to the royal establishment. She uses that authority to keep Nux's cultivation secret, excuse his absence, send him to Ember with an identifying badge, shelter his family, and protect Evane's freedom of choice. These applications rely on institutional standing, personal trust, and her link to Astaria; they are not magical abilities. Her authority has limits: King Stage Eliyard outranks her in direct force, Ricardus controls the kingdom, and Astaria's concealed role creates conflicts Arvina cannot solve by command alone.
