Maeve

Maeve is the Divine Army of Light’s Oracle, a Saintess whose divination makes her both an intelligence asset and an elusive combatant. She previously helped break Hereswith’s resistance by capturing Gaap, and her attempts to control Lux eventually end with her own forced subjugation.

Biography

The Divine Army reckoning

When Lux attacks the Divine City, Maeve commands a hundred Saints sent to capture him and recognizes his hypersonic bomb moments before detonation, though too late to prevent catastrophic losses. Bitter over his escape, she later uses a golden bowl for divination but discovers that the world’s laws shield his Progenitor existence from her sight. She therefore plans to seize hostages and force him into a Soul Contract, treating twenty volunteering Apostles as expendable instruments. Her motive is not merely revenge: keeping Lux alive would also give the Divine Army leverage over Hereswith and reduce the risk of a wider war. (Chapters 974, 1012, 1015)

Maeve’s plan collapses after her allies change sides. Her short-range foresight lets her evade Hana and briefly improves the Apostles’ attacks when she links her divination to them, but a Space Lock disables her escape artifact and Lux’s soul-damaging power dulls her reactions. Hana captures her, and Blackfire subsequently devours and converts her into an absolutely loyal subordinate of Lux. The reversal destroys the pride and autonomy that defined her earlier decisions: the Oracle who sought to enslave Lux is herself compelled to serve him, with no evidence that this loyalty is freely chosen. The rescue from the Abyss and the final war

Maeve later functions as an Alliance battlefield commander during the assault on the Abyssal Fortress. She coats the launched Blast Bombs with her power, steers them around intercepting spells, and detonates them by thought, allowing the bombardment to vaporize Abyssal Lords who cannot escape. This role preserves her identity as the Divine Army’s Oracle while applying her control abilities on Lux’s side. It is a practical development from prediction to guided ordnance, but the earlier Blackfire conversion means her participation should be understood in the context of enforced loyalty rather than reconciliation. Appearance and personality

Maeve is repeatedly described as a beautiful woman whose appearance is only slightly below Hereswith’s, and she carries herself with the pride and authority of a senior Saintess. Before her capture she is calculating, vindictive, and willing to sacrifice followers or take hostages for institutional advantage. She remains composed enough to improvise under pressure, yet becomes anxious when escape closes. Maeve’s Divination can locate threats, reveal likely outcomes, and in combat let her act as though she sees roughly five seconds into the future. She can link that predictive guidance to allied Apostles, greatly improving their ability to hit a stronger foe. The power is not omniscient: she cannot lock onto a Progenitor protected by world law, future sight does not erase rank disparities, and soul damage can dull her senses. She also relies on a golden bowl filled with water for remote divination and on an artifact for teleportation, which fails inside a Space Lock. In the final war, coating bombs with her power extends her control to steering and thought-triggered detonation, but the bombs’ destructive force comes from the munitions rather than her divination itself.
