King Leoric

King Leoric is the last ruler of fallen Zangrila and a former Saint reborn as a Wraith King. He pledges himself to Lux after the Half-Elf restores his soldiers’ damaged souls, carrying his kingdom’s legacy into the Covenant through loyal service and spectral warfare.

Biography

The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss

Leoric has spent centuries watching Zangrila’s dead remain bound to ruin. When Lux repairs the souls of fallen Wraith Soldiers and enables their reincarnation, the king lowers the pride that once kept him from bowing and offers lifelong service in exchange for the same mercy toward the rest. He allows only his twelve Royal Knights to remain with him, refusing weaker soldiers because renewed combat could destroy them permanently, and thereby turns royal duty from preserving an army into protecting his people from further suffering. Within Lux’s Covenant, Leoric operates as a disciplined commander rather than a dispossessed monarch seeking replacement territory. He and his Knights attack Twilight Rain, protect Eiko from afar, and fight in Lux’s larger campaigns while maintaining their old formation and titles. His objectives remain subordinate to Lux’s orders, but his spectral army keeps Zangrila’s martial identity alive after its civilian souls have passed onward. (Chapters 734, 901, 917)

The rescue from the Abyss and the final war

When Lux returns as a Saint, Leoric has reached Calamity rank and helps defend Agartha. Asked to reveal the army gathered during Lux’s year-long absence, he and his Wraith Queen call tens of thousands of specters into a green tide whose attacks carry Lux’s death and Abyssal enhancements. He remains one tier below the leading Demigods in the final confrontation, yet commands massed undead forces and contributes the courage that Lux inherits through their shared final power. Appearance and personality

Leoric appears as a Wraith King capable of moving as a blue comet and taking a spectral royal form armed with a sword. His gestures preserve knightly formality: he places a fist over his chest, kneels, and speaks in the language of oaths and legacy. Proud while alive, he becomes openly grateful when Lux saves his people. His most consistent traits are courage, responsibility, and restraint, especially when he refuses to expose weaker countrymen to permanent destruction. (Chapters 678–679, 697, 1219)

Spectral combat and survival

At induction Leoric is an SSR++ Dreadnaught-ranked World Boss whose former Saint power was depleted by sending his family and retainers away from doomed Zangrila. His listed abilities include Spectral Form, Life and Mana Steal, Revival, Wraith Absorption, Wraith Fire, Cursed Blade, and ethereal weapons. He demonstrates a pale-blue sword slash and high endurance, but his reduced rank remains real: he is slower than Lux and Zagan in pursuit and cannot recover his past Saint state immediately. Royal summons and army command

Leoric can summon his twelve Deimos-ranked Royal Wraith Knights, later a Wraith Queen, and tens of thousands of gathered specters. Their value comes from coordinated spectral assault and command continuity, not merely his personal swordsmanship. His roster is also governed by choice: he initially rejects ordinary Wraith Soldiers because their lower rank makes true death too likely, showing that summoning access does not erase his duty to preserve them. Relationships

• Lux: Leoric owes Lux the release of Zangrila’s souls and repays that debt through sworn Covenant service. Lux, in turn, trusts him with major battles and Eiko’s protection. (Chapters 678–679, 917, 1136–1138)
• The Twelve Royal Wraith Knights: His retainers refuse reincarnation while their king remains in service. Leoric reluctantly accepts their oath but protects weaker soldiers from making the same sacrifice. (Chapter 679)
• Asmodeus: The two are senior undead commanders who build armies during Lux’s absence and display them side by side at Agartha. (Chapters 1136–1138)
