Gerald

Gerald is Wildgarde Stronghold’s bearded High Commander and one of Lux’s parental figures. He combines strict policies meant to build durable warriors with an openly protective attachment to the Half-Elf he helped raise.

Biography

Awakening and Leaf Village

Gerald forbids Wildgarde children from using Beast Cores to inflate their statistics too early, believing discipline and a warrior’s mindset must precede borrowed power. The rule complicates Lux’s childhood progress but reflects long-term protection rather than hostility; Gerald helped change his diapers and later encourages his independence. When Lux comes of age, Gerald gives him one month to create a guild, deliberately attaching responsibility to freedom. He subsequently recognizes Heaven’s Gate’s legitimacy and resists Alexander’s pressure until the larger danger is explained, preserving his authority without abandoning Lux. (Chapters 27, 34, 174, 308, 363–366)

The Dragon kingdoms and the Abyss

Gerald later uses Wildgarde’s teleportation authority to help Lux travel during an urgent campaign, showing that his institutional support continues beyond childhood. When the disguised High-Ranker Vera approaches Lux, Gerald immediately interposes himself and alerts Wildgarde’s Guardians even though he cannot sense her strength. The misunderstanding ends when he recognizes her, but his first response is revealing: rank disparity does not erase his protective instinct. His last direct appearance leaves him alive, still defending the stronghold and the young man he raised. (Chapters 683, 794–795)

Appearance and personality

Gerald is an older, bearded Dwarf addressed as the old commander. His physical description is otherwise limited, but his posture and rapid defensive response mark a veteran accustomed to authority. Stern rules, blunt tests, and skepticism of outside coercion coexist with paternal warmth toward Lux. He prefers growth earned through discipline and takes institutional duties seriously, yet protection of his family can make him challenge a far stronger stranger before he has complete information. (Chapters 27, 174, 308, 363–366, 794–795)

Command abilities

C-Rank strength and stronghold authority

Gerald is identified as a C-Ranker rather than an elite frontline combatant. No named attack is demonstrated; his practical capabilities are command of Wildgarde’s Guardians, access to teleportation infrastructure, emergency mobilization, and the judgment to set training policy for the stronghold’s children. These powers depend on office and cooperation as much as personal strength. Vera’s disguised approach demonstrates his sensory limit: he cannot accurately read a High-Ranker who suppresses her presence, so his protection relies on alarm and collective defense instead of matching her directly. (Chapters 27, 683, 794–795)

Relationships

  • Lux: Gerald helps raise Lux, tests his readiness for independence, and continues using Wildgarde’s resources and his own body to protect him. (Chapters 27, 174, 308, 363–366, 683, 794)
  • Vera: Both are parental protectors of Lux. Gerald initially mistakes her disguised arrival for a threat before recognizing her. (Chapters 794–795)
  • Alexander: Gerald refuses to be bullied into surrendering control of Lux’s guild and cooperates only after the stakes are made clear. (Chapters 363–366)
