Anti-Mind-Magic Pendants

Overview

The Anti-Mind-Magic Pendants are simplified protections that Argona develops from Dean's stronger model. Individual pieces are weaker than the royal pendants made by Tivana's grandfather, but Hearthwood can manufacture enough to equip supply missions, retain local defenses, and cover every True Mage in Tivana's planned force. History

Mass production changes the mind-magic campaign

Argona develops the simplified pendant while Comela is carrying supplies through territory threatened by mind mages. Comela distributes as many copies as Argona can make, and hostile True Mages attack Hearthwood specifically to cut off the supply at its source. Hearthwood also keeps some for its own defenders. In battle, putting one on lets Comela see through the concealment masking a large enemy formation, converting Theo's warning into a target she can independently perceive. The pendant network therefore matters less as a singular relic than as repeatable protection distributed across a vulnerable coalition. (Chapters 197, 199)

Tivana later faces a shortage of her grandfather's superior pendants because most were assigned to great-clan matriarchs who stop responding. Her trade review finds Hearthwood's weaker stock numerous enough to issue one to every True Mage. The latest evidence confirms intended large-scale distribution but does not track each pendant or show whether production continues after that exchange. (Chapter 213)

Abilities and properties

• Perception through mind magic: Wearing a simplified pendant lets Comela see enemies concealed by a mind-magic effect. This establishes protective perception, not complete immunity to every mental attack. (Chapter 199)
• Scalable manufacture: Argona can produce copies rapidly enough for relief shipments, Hearthwood reserves, and army-wide True-Mage issue. The design's strategic advantage is quantity. (Chapters 197, 213)
• Reduced strength: Hearthwood's pendants are explicitly weaker than Dean's model and the pendants made by Tivana's grandfather. The corpus does not quantify their threshold against higher-realm attacks. (Chapters 197, 213)
• Wear requirement: An enemy identifies Theo as vulnerable when he is not wearing one, while Comela's protection begins once she puts hers on. No passive area protection is documented. (Chapter 199)
