Biography

Displacement and the Hearthwood Compact

Matriarch Red Serpent dominates the displaced Hearthwood tribes through fear, external backing, and equipment that draws power from captives. After dueling Yulli, she attempts to drain the vitality of Theodore Waltz and Sava Greenstem, but Theo hides cold iron until he can drive it into her heart. Her death breaks the Crimson Dragon Clan's coercive hold and makes a voluntary Hearthwood compact possible. (Chapters 39–40, 43)

The Reopened Wanderer and the Archreaver War

Hearthwood later recovers Red Serpent as a wisp and reincarnates her inefficiently. The resulting child, called Little Red, retains the same soul continuity but little of the former matriarch's memory, talent, or established personality, so the clan treats her as a new beginning rather than punishing a child for the dead ruler's choices. She grows into a red-haired follower closely associated with Segolas, joins Hearthwood's defense, and remains active when the Archreaver crisis reaches the clan. (Chapters 82, 93–94, 101, 122)

Appearance and personality

Before death, Red Serpent presents herself as an imposing clan matriarch equipped for lethal rule. After reincarnation she is a young elf with red or fire-colored hair and a markedly different, less developed identity. The text explicitly warns against assuming that Little Red preserves the former matriarch's memories and disposition, so the two life stages must be described together without collapsing them into an unchanged personality. (Chapters 39–43, 82, 93–94)

Abilities and cultivation

The original matriarch uses a spear, powerful protective artifacts, and parasite rings that siphon captives to bolster her. Much of her apparent strength is equipment-derived, and concealed cold iron bypasses her confidence and kills her. Little Red's reincarnation is inefficient and does not restore the former ruler's full talent or cultivation; her later exact rank and named techniques are not established. (Chapters 39–43, 82, 93–94, 122)

Relationships

• Theodore Waltz: Theo kills the coercive matriarch, then participates in the Hearthwood society that gives her reincarnated soul a fresh start. (Chapters 43, 82)
• Sava Greenstem: Red Serpent tries to prey on Sava and Theo before her death; Little Red later lives inside the clan Sava helped build. (Chapters 43, 82–94)
• Segolas: Little Red becomes his close companion and fellow Hearthwood defender. (Chapters 93–94, 101, 122)
