Chief Antgut

Chief Antgut is an Ironwood leader whose death and reincarnation separate political identity from bodily continuity. Killed during the three-chief duel, she returns as a young elf without a spellheart, gradually recovers her memories, and ultimately chooses responsibility for Ironwood over remaining solely among Segolas's followers. Biography

Death, a new body, and an old obligation

Antgut fights as Ironwood's Mage Acolyte chief in the staged confrontation among three clans, using a transforming ironwood sword and a defensive style until Yulli kills her. She reincarnates as a fresh young elf with no spellheart and initially follows Segolas Hearthwood while memories return. Those memories become morally consequential when she visits the dying Arwena, her former lover. Antgut cannot restore their old life, but chooses to take responsibility for Ironwood rather than abandon it for the security of Segolas's group. Later, after surviving an attempt by Tim to have Yulli strangle her, she assists the injured Theo and helps connect him with Red Serpent contacts. (Chapters 38–39, 82, 101, 122)

Appearance and personality

Before death Antgut is an old, bark-skinned matriarch. Her reincarnated body is a plump-cheeked young elf whose innocent appearance clashes with returning memories of leadership and love. She is defensive and clan-minded, but her later choices show loyalty without denying the reality of her changed life. (Chapters 38–39, 82, 101)

Abilities and cultivation

Antgut was a Mage Acolyte and skilled ironwood swordswoman before death. Reincarnation removes her spellheart and resets cultivation; by Chapter 101 she is a Heartwielder. She retains or recovers experience, but her young body lacks the raw power of the former chief. (Chapters 39, 82, 101–102)

Relationships

• Arwena: Arwena was Antgut's lover and successor. Their final meeting joins recovered affection with acceptance that the old relationship cannot simply resume. (Chapter 101)
• Segolas Hearthwood: Antgut follows Segolas after reincarnation and is saved by him when Tim orders her death. (Chapters 82, 122)
• Theodore Waltz: Antgut assists Theo after the assassination attempt and helps him navigate tribal contacts. (Chapter 122)
