Cup of Reincarnation

History

The Cup of Reincarnation, also called the Tool of God, is a forbidden relic used by the Rulers to reverse time after failed wars against the Monarchs. Each reset lets the Rulers change their plans, but higher beings retain awareness of altered timelines, allowing the Monarchs to adapt as well. Repeated use gradually depletes the relic.

After the Dragon King is defeated, Jinwoo Sung asks the Rulers to use the Cup one final time. He intends to erase the human cost of the gates and fight the Monarchs before their armies reach Earth. The brightest Ruler turns the Cup upside down, releasing light that covers the world and restores an earlier point in history.

The reset revives enemies as well as victims. Jinwoo therefore enters the gap between dimensions with the shadow soldiers who still exist in the restored timeline and wages a new war lasting decades from his perspective. His victory produces a world in which the original gate disasters never occur.

Properties and use

Turning over the Cup reverses the state of the world rather than transporting a single user through time. Ordinary people lose knowledge of the discarded history, while Rulers, Monarchs, and others touched by their power can recognize or recover aspects of it.

The relic has a finite reserve. The Rulers warn that no power lasts forever, and its final activation exhausts the remaining ability to correct the timeline. A reset can also have far-reaching consequences: people and shadow soldiers whose origins no longer exist disappear, while beings killed after the restored point return.

  • Jinwoo Sung: Jinwoo requests the final reversal, accepts its personal cost, and uses the new timeline to prevent the war from reaching humanity.

The Cup changes the circumstances surrounding every item in Jinwoo’s former history, but it is controlled by the Rulers rather than stored in his inventory.
