Jongsu Park
Jongsu Park is the master and main tank of Busan’s Knights Guild. Although his guild has no S-rank member, disciplined teamwork, practical negotiation, and his insistence on bringing everyone home make it one of Korea’s leading organizations.
Biography
Recovery work on Jeju
Jongsu participates in the post-raid recovery operation on Jeju Island with his longtime colleague Yoontae Jung. When the hunters encounter strange humanoid beings within the ant cave, he recognizes that the situation falls outside ordinary monster disposal and defers to the military personnel responsible for the site. The decision establishes a recurring trait: Jongsu is curious and expressive, but does not gamble his members’ safety merely to satisfy pride. (Chapter 37)
Asking Ahjin for help
Knights later secures a maximum-difficulty A-rank gate that it cannot safely abandon. The guild is exceptionally strong as a unit but lacks an S rank, making the boss an unacceptable risk. Jongsu travels to Seoul to negotiate directly with Jinwoo Sung. He initially proposes a smaller profit share, then accepts an even split when Jinwoo’s involvement becomes the only responsible way to guarantee the raid. He specifically asks Jinwoo to handle the boss so Knights can fight within its proven limits. (Chapter 40)
The negotiation bruises Jongsu’s pride, but he never lets pride outweigh lives. He understands that a smaller share of a safe raid is better than total ownership of a catastrophe, and he presents the arrangement candidly to his team. (Chapter 40)
Holding the front line
Inside the dungeon, Jongsu and Yoontae perform final equipment checks and establish the formation. Against a Two-Headed Ogre, Jongsu enlarges and hardens his muscles, braces behind his shield, absorbs the creature’s club, and fixes its attention on himself while damage dealers attack. He does not merely endure impacts; he controls where the monster faces and creates predictable attack windows for the rest of Knights. (Chapter 41)
The team’s smooth response shows why Knights can compete nationally without an S rank. Roles are practiced, communication is immediate, and Jongsu trusts his members to exploit the space he makes. His leadership is physical—standing where the blow will land—as well as organizational. (Chapter 41)
Command after Jinwoo leaves
When high orcs attack Jinah’s school, Jinwoo leaves the raid abruptly and sends ant shadows to finish the dungeon. The shadows destroy monsters and consume remains that would normally be valuable loot. Jongsu does not challenge forces he cannot control or demand compensation while lives are at stake. He orders Knights toward the boss chamber, uses its layout as a defensive refuge, accounts for his people, and prioritizes a route that keeps them clear of the undead army. (Chapter 42)
The raid ends without member casualties, which Jongsu treats as the meaningful result. He accepts the lost loot and disrupted plan because a guild master’s responsibility is to return with his hunters, not maximize profit at any cost. (Chapter 42)
Cooperation and later leadership
Jongsu hopes the successful raid can become a continuing field partnership with Ahjin. Regulations prevent the exact arrangement, so he adapts: Knights provides experienced handling and processing for loot from Jinwoo’s distant raids instead of trying to compete with his shadow army. The work gives both guilds a practical benefit while preserving their separate identities. (Chapter 44)
As dungeon incidents grow less predictable, Jongsu warns his team to stay focused and makes the objective explicit: no one is to be harmed. He handles Yoontae’s informal energy without suppressing it, balancing friendship with the authority required of a raid commander. (Chapter 55)
Appearance and personality
Jongsu is a large man in his thirties whose build suits his front-line role. He smokes and speaks informally, often showing worry, excitement, or injured pride more openly than elite guild leaders in Seoul. (Chapters 37, 40)
He is pragmatic, loyal, adaptable, and protective. Jongsu cares deeply about Knights’ status, but repeatedly chooses safety over appearances: he asks Jinwoo for help, accepts costly terms, gives up loot, and changes business plans when regulation intervenes. His friendship with Yoontae gives his command style warmth without weakening its discipline. (Chapters 40–44, 55)
Abilities, skills, and rank
Physical reinforcement
Jongsu is an awakened tank able to expand and harden his musculature before impact. This reinforcement lets him withstand blows from an upper-A-rank dungeon’s Two-Headed Ogre that would crush less durable hunters. (Chapter 41)
Shield defense and threat control
He fights with a large shield, braces against frontal strikes, and holds a boss-class enemy’s attention. The role requires positioning and timing as well as toughness: Jongsu keeps attacks directed away from vulnerable teammates and gives damage dealers reliable openings. (Chapter 41)
Raid command
Jongsu performs equipment checks, maintains role assignments, counts personnel during chaotic retreats, evaluates defensible terrain, and changes objectives when circumstances invalidate the original plan. His command after Jinwoo leaves shows strong situational awareness under a threat no conventional guild manual anticipated. (Chapters 41–42)
Negotiation and logistics
He negotiates profit-sharing, defines responsibility for the boss, and later structures a loot-processing partnership between Knights and Ahjin. These skills allow a guild without an S rank to survive commercially and operationally among organizations with greater individual power. (Chapters 40, 44)
Limits
Jongsu and Knights cannot safely defeat every upper-A-rank boss without S-rank support. His tanking depends on team formation, equipment, and reinforcement rather than invulnerability. He understands this ceiling and makes seeking help part of competent leadership rather than treating it as shame. (Chapters 40–42)
