Chu Dong

Chu Dong is the current patriarch of the Hades bloodline, Chu Cheng’s father, and the Gourmet’s elder brother. He has reached the peak of Ninth Level cultivation without finding a Path to Paragon, so his leadership focuses on protecting the family and preparing its more gifted members to restore the bloodline’s standing.

Biography

Patriarch and tournament judge

Chu Dong oversees high-level bouts at the Great Adept Tournament, reinforcing shields and intervening as a peak Adept responsible for safety and fairness. He monitors Chu Cheng closely, combining public discipline with private pride in the effort beneath his son’s playboy reputation. Although he once protected the younger Gourmet from their father’s punishments, twenty years of estrangement leave the brothers able only to exchange a loaded glance at the tournament. (Chapters 399–424)

Reuniting the family

Chu later represents the family at Skyfire Avenue’s vital-crystal auction and meets the Gourmet face to face. Anger gives way to an embrace; he tells his brother that their aging father misses him and refuses to accept an apology delivered secondhand, prompting the Gourmet to promise a return home. In Chapter 722 Chu arrives with former patriarch Chu Yun to witness Chu Cheng complete his Paragon breakthrough, leaving the current patriarch alive as the family’s long-delayed hopes are realized. (Chapters 552, 638–639, and 722)

Appearance and personality

Chu is the Gourmet’s greying elder brother, marked by a stately maturity rather than the younger man’s former fiery attractiveness. Strong emotion reddens his eyes, but his tears can steam away when his fiery Discipline stirs. The corpus gives no more detailed fixed portrait. (Chapters 638–639)

He is stern, traditional, dutiful, and far more affectionate than his harsh manner suggests. His parenting combines an iron fist with permission to relax after hard work, while his reunion with the Gourmet shows that family loyalty outlasts resentment. Unlike his father, Chu can criticize the family’s old methods internally and act as a mediator without openly overthrowing the elder’s pride. (Chapters 423, 552, and 638–639)

Disciplines and abilities

Peak Adept cultivation

Chu is a high Ninth Level or peak-level Adept trusted to supervise dangerous tournament encounters and reinforce the arena’s gemstone-powered shields with his own energy. His Discipline manifests as fire, and he can move quickly enough to appear beside the Gourmet in a flash. The corpus does not name a fuller technique set or give him a dedicated duel. (Chapters 399–423 and 638)

Paragon limit and leadership

Despite a lifetime of cultivation, Chu has not found the protogenic Path required for a Paragon breakthrough. His strength therefore remains below the Gourmet and later Chu Cheng in realm, while his authority comes from family leadership, judgment, and continuity rather than transcendent power. (Chapters 399, 638–639, and 722)
