Vigrid

Vigrid is the hidden sword that becomes Yeon-woo's principal weapon and the vessel for a succession of heroic legends. Its eventual Scythe form is a reconstruction centered on Vigrid, not proof that Vigrid and Kronos' destroyed ancient Scythe were always the same physical artifact.

History

The hidden sword and its purification

Kahn and Doyle initially seek Vigrid as a Tutorial hidden piece, but Yeon-woo later defeats the guardian in Section F and pulls the sword from a large rock. Its category is initially unreadable, and Kahn warns that relying on its power could weaken its user; Yeon-woo accepts the risk and binds his fighting style to it. (Chapters 32, 52–54)

Aegis and Holy Fire accelerate the removal of Vigrid's curses, and Yeon-woo later pours Urd's holy power into it. The weapon lengthens, turns white, and recovers its nature as a holy sword; by Chapter 263, ninety-nine percent of the curse has been removed, although its true name remains unresolved. (Chapters 112, 147, 163, 263)

Released names and the Scythe reconstruction

Vigrid releases distinct true-name forms whose legends change its function: Durendal for giant-killing and powerful cuts, Arondight for dragon decapitation, Gáe Bulg for an unerring throw, and Harpe as a death-scythe that denies invincibility. These are forms and legends contained by Vigrid rather than separate weapons in Yeon-woo's custody. (Chapters 377, 428–429, 451, 549)

Kronos later explains that Vigrid is a secondary or concealing name and that Scythe is the final name toward which the weapon can be restored. The corpus separately shows Kronos materializing his ancient Scythe beside Vigrid's Harpe form and explicitly says that the ancient original had been destroyed by Zeus. Master smiths eventually build a new composite around Vigrid and a Darkness Jade; when its legends recombine, Vigrid's name is permanently changed to Scythe. (Chapters 576, 604, 653, 676)

Abilities and properties

• Factor of the Sword increases Vigrid's power when it recognizes numerous or stronger enemies and releases demonic wind that affects their judgment. (Chapters 53, 56)
• Purification converts the cursed demonic sword back toward a holy weapon capable of punishing demons. (Chapters 147, 163, 263)
• Its true-name forms call on different folklore, allowing Vigrid to act as a sword, spear, or scythe with specialized effects. (Chapters 377, 429, 451, 549)
• It is described as a unique artifact bound to its owner and unavailable for ordinary transfer or trade. (Chapter 263)
