Ruyi Bang

Ruyi Bang is the Monkey King's holy artifact, a divine-iron staff whose pieces are tied to succession to the title of Great Sage. The corpus also presents temporary and modified Ruyi Bang forms, which should not all be treated as the uninterrupted original staff.

History

The hundred-piece succession quest

Kindred first identifies the hidden goal as Ruyi Bang, while Yeon-woo later receives one hand-sized piece from the Monkey King's exuviae. The exuviae explains that the Monkey King split the staff into one hundred pieces and scattered them across the Tower; completing it is a condition of the Ruyi Bang's Owner quest. (Chapters 155, 165)

Yeon-woo stores his piece in Intrenian and accepts the succession quest, while other successors and factions continue searching for the remaining fragments. His possession is custody of a fragment, not completion or ownership of the entire original. (Chapter 165)

Manifested and modified forms

In a world of unconscious, the Monkey King's exuviae imagines a Ruyi Bang with the real artifact's properties, enlarges it, and uses its divine iron to pin and seal the Crawling Chaos. The narration explicitly calls this an imagined rather than the physical original. (Chapter 531)

Yeon-woo later creates a modified Ruyi Bang from the wreckage of the Tower, itself identified with Ruyi Bang, and fills it with the Black King's powers. This derivative becomes chains rather than simply restoring the Monkey King's original staff. (Chapter 723)

Abilities and properties

• Made of divine iron capable of changing size and taking assembled forms. (Chapters 165, 531)
• Can pin, compress, and seal spaces, consciousness, identities, and divine beings. (Chapter 531)
• Its fragments can be combined with other divine-iron constructs and weapons. (Chapters 429, 451, 549)
• The modified form made from Tower wreckage is unmeasurable and carries the Black King's blessings and powers. (Chapter 723)
