Black Bracelet

The Black Bracelet is the crude wrist guard Yeon-woo receives after the Resurrection Ceremony. Its concealed identity is Despair of the Black King, the first of three named parts—Despair, Grief, and Fury—that open as the Cast of the Black King.

History

The sealed bracelet

Yeon-woo receives the unnamed bracelet as a quest reward after defeating Akasha's Snake. It recognizes him as wearer, grants sight into the world of the dead, and reveals Soul Bind and Black Blade, allowing him to bind souls and spend them as dark, curse-bearing power. (Chapters 43–44)

The bracelet becomes the vessel through which collected souls can act in the physical world. Shanon is later housed and summoned through Yeon-woo's death-related powers, but he is a bound familiar rather than an owner or custodian of the artifact. (Chapters 50, 108, 366–367)

Despair, Grief, and Fury

The bracelet's explicit identity is Despair of the Black King. When Grief of the Black King is unsealed, Despair and Grief combine to open the Cast of the Black King as a two-of-three set. Fury of the Black King later merges into the information window, completing the three named identities of the Cast. (Chapters 171, 298–299, 450–451)

The completed Cast manifests as black manacles, fetters, and chains connected to darkness and emptiness. Much later, Sesha discovers a piece of the chains that used to wrap Yeon-woo's right arm, showing that the Cast has become physically scattered rather than remaining only as the original bracelet. (Chapters 451, 503, 624, 702)

Abilities and properties

  • Soul Bind captures souls, while Black Blade converts bound souls into offensive dark energy and curses. (Chapters 43–44)
  • Lets its wearer perceive souls and strengthens compatible death-related sight. (Chapter 43)
  • The completed Cast uses command words such as Soul Collector and Summon of the Dead. (Chapters 366–367, 397)
  • Its chains can pass through emptiness, bind targets, absorb power, and help preserve Yeon-woo's ego in the abyss. (Chapters 377, 503, 536, 574)
