Ted

Ted is a Triton lieutenant, Antaeus's Apostle, and Elaine's twin brother. Exceptionally confident in his strength, he serves Benteke after losing to him and continues imagining that he might eventually take the captain's place.

Biography

Confidence ends against an unknown scale

Ted helps Jinrang and Elaine protect the injured Benteke, speaking curtly because he doubts that the captain is being cared for properly. His loyalty coexists with ambition: after Triton's mutiny, he accepts Benteke's authority only after losing their contest and still plans to steal the position someday. When Yeon-woo attacks Triton, Ted arrives on a wave with an aura comparable to his captain's and expects his long record of victories to hold. Boo's overwhelming power kills him with anticlimactic speed, turning his confidence into one of the losses that leaves Benteke furious at Poseidon's indifference. (Chapters 289–295)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not detail Ted's face or clothing. His entrance from the sky on a wave emphasizes the force and status expected of a Triton lieutenant. He is curt, competitive, and extremely self-assured, yet his concern for Benteke and place among the captain's family-like commanders show that ambition has not erased attachment. (Chapters 289–291, 295)

Abilities and powers

Ted is the Apostle of Antaeus, a god of power and battle, and manifests an aura assessed on Benteke's level. He can ride and control a large wave carrying ship debris, bringing both mobility and mass into battle. His record contains only two defeats before Yeon-woo's assault, but that experience gives him no defense against Boo's vastly greater magic; the encounter ends before the corpus establishes additional techniques. (Chapters 289–294)

  • Benteke: Ted loses to Benteke when Triton establishes its hierarchy, then serves as a commander while retaining private ambition.
  • Yeon-woo: Ted enters the defense against Yeon-woo's assault and is killed by power belonging to Yeon-woo's forces.
  • Boo: Boo so completely exceeds Ted's expectations that their confrontation ends almost immediately in Ted's death.
  • Poseidon: Poseidon's campaign draws Triton into the conflict while his indifference to Ted's death deepens Benteke's resentment.
