Nike is the Phoenix's youngest child, a sentient Legendary Beast whose bond with Yeon-woo develops from an affectionate contract into a freely chosen place within his family and power.

Biography

The Phoenix's youngest child chooses mercy

Yeon-woo meets the newly born firebird through the Phoenix, names him Chirpy, and forms a contract that lets them sense one another's thoughts. After Hanryeong kills the Phoenix, the child fights beside Yeon-woo but refuses to extend vengeance to Hanbin. He asks that the innocent son be spared because he does not want another child placed in his own grief, and that decision breaks Hanryeong's resistance more completely than coercion could. (Chapters 84–92 and 109–141)

Chirpy grows into Nike

Rest inside the Philosopher's Stone accelerates the young beast's development, and Yeon-woo gives him the name Nike when he awakens able to speak clearly and demonstrate stronger fire powers. Nike proudly asserts the new identity, forms a close friendship with Sesha, and later enters Kahn's mind to carry messages and heal him during an infiltration. These actions show that the contract enables cooperation without erasing Nike's preferences, relationships, or independent judgment. (Chapters 168–173, 192, 219, and 333–336)

A living companion becomes flame

As Yeon-woo approaches exuviation, Nike becomes disconnected from the ordinary world of dreams and increasingly exists as the fire that burns Yeon-woo's enemies. Yeon-woo fears that complete synchronization will erase the companion he regards as part of himself, and Kronos proposes eventually connecting Nike to the corresponding divine existence. Nike nevertheless remains self-aware as the process advances; by the final war, his firmer voice and pointed moral questions display maturation rather than passive dissolution. Appearance and personality

Nike begins as a small baby bird whose feathers are warm living flame rather than ordinary plumage. He later grows to roughly chest height and can disperse into blue fire. His bright eyes, tilted head, and habit of covering his beak while giggling make his youth obvious. He is affectionate, excitable, and proud of his strength, but his mercy toward Hanbin and later moral seriousness show an unusually empathetic core.

Abilities and powers

Nike's abilities derive from his birth as the Phoenix's child and develop through his bond with Yeon-woo and rest inside the Philosopher's Stone. His fire can act independently or combine with Yeon-woo's own Holy Fire.

Holy Fire and wide-area manifestations

Nike produces sacred blue fire that burns hostile beings while also supporting life and recovery. Fire Hail calls flaming projectiles from above, Sea of Fire raises flames across the ground, and his transformed fire body can race through groups of ghost monsters. These large manifestations consume substantial magic power. He is also uncomfortable in damp, death-saturated environments, reflecting the tension between his living flame and those surroundings. Elemental Contact and synchronization

Elemental Contact lets Nike enter existing fire, amplify it, and coordinate with Yeon-woo through their mental bond. He can freely control friendly or naturally occurring flames, but fire created by an enemy's hostile intent can only be weakened or redirected rather than completely seized. Continued use gradually synchronizes Nike with the flame attribute; this increases maturity and power while creating the unresolved risk that his distinct existence could disappear into the element. Relationships

• Yeon-woo: Yeon-woo names and contracts with Nike, but also grants him free will and worries about preserving his separate identity as his synchronization with flame advances.
• Sesha: Nike becomes Sesha's closest animal-like companion and responds to her affection with patience, protectiveness, and his own opinions.
• Hanryeong: Although Hanryeong killed Nike's mother, Nike spares Hanbin and later supports saving Hanryeong, repeatedly choosing mercy without denying the original harm.
• Jeong-woo: Nike's bond with Yeon-woo and friendship with Nemesis place him inside the family Jeong-woo's return is meant to restore.
