Hargan
Hargan is the male ruler of Hargan's Lair, a Tutorial boss whose defense of his offspring brings him into conflict with Yeon-woo, Kahn, and Doyle.
Biography
The lair's defenders become a hidden-stage trial
Hargan and Queen Taragan protect their newborns in a guarded lair, capturing players as food and making the hidden piece dangerous even for Kahn and Doyle. Yeon-woo enters knowing that defeating the visible king will not end the threat because Taragan is the lair's true owner. Hargan escalates into a second phase, forcing Yeon-woo to overload his combined abilities; Yeon-woo wins, extracts Heat Wave, and returns with his companions to claim the hidden quest's reward. (Chapters 19–28)
A boss monster returns with the Tutorial
Hargan's defeat is not permanent in the manner of an ordinary character's death. His innate skill belongs to a boss template, so a new Tutorial round can recreate both him and Heat Wave. When Laplace later disrupts the Tutorial and feeds its monsters to Akasha's Snake, Yeon-woo anticipates using Hargan and Taragan to accelerate the serpent's growth, confirming that the lair's rulers remain part of the resetting stage even after the earlier raid. (Chapters 27, 487)
Appearance and personality
Hargan is a large Lizardman chief surrounded by numerous warriors and paired with the more dangerous Queen Taragan. His escalating second phase emphasizes a physically imposing boss form rather than a human disguise. (Chapters 19, 22–28)
His direct interior thoughts are not shown. His actions establish territorial aggression and protection of the lair's newborns, but the same household also captures and butchers players for food. The result is a sentient monster ruler acting for his community through predation rather than a passive stage prop. (Chapters 22–25)
Abilities and powers
Boss physiology and second phase
Hargan is strong enough that experienced players cannot assume victory, especially while his warriors and Taragan remain in the lair. When pressured, he enters a second phase that forces Yeon-woo to combine several skills beyond his body's comfortable load. Hargan's chief limitation is encounter structure: he can be isolated, defeated, and harvested before the party confronts the hidden queen behind him. (Chapters 22–28)
Heat Wave
Heat Wave is Hargan's innate buff skill. Because innate skills are bound to recurring boss monsters, it returns with Hargan in later Tutorial rounds even after Yeon-woo extracts a copy through Bathory's Vampiric Sword. The extraction does not establish that Hargan can freely grant the skill; it depends on the sword's rare ability to take powers from a defeated target. (Chapter 27)
Relationships
- Yeon-woo: Yeon-woo enters the lair prepared for both rulers, defeats Hargan's second phase, and extracts Heat Wave. (Chapters 19–28)
- Kahn: Kahn joins the raid while treating Hargan as a boss dangerous enough to require a rested, prepared party. (Chapters 22–28)
- Doyle: Doyle accompanies Kahn and Yeon-woo into the hidden piece and shares the risk created by the two Lizardman rulers. (Chapters 22–28)
Items
None. Hargan's Crown names the lair's hidden reward, but it is not included in the finalized notable-item roster.
