Aether

Aether is a former member of Arthia whose divine lineage and holy-light abilities never resolve his need to belong, leading him through successive betrayals of Arthia, the Elohim, and the Devil Army.

Biography

An Arthia traitor seeks status among the Elohim

After abandoning Jeong-woo and Arthia, Aether enters the Elohim and pursues Brahm as part of the faction's attempt to reclaim the exiled alchemist and his research. When Galliard and Yeon-woo resist, Aether considers retreat but decides that returning defeated by a non-ranker would destroy his standing among the divine families. Pride therefore turns a recoverable failure into a deeper commitment, and his retreat from the battle leaves him more isolated inside the society whose approval he wanted. (Chapters 187–203)

Betrayal becomes a method of survival

Humiliation within the Elohim pushes Aether toward Kindred and the Devil Army, though he never truly accepts either group. He sees Jeong-woo's memory as a curse because every attempted home—Arthia, Elohim, then the Devil Army—ends with him struggling alone. When offered another chance, he chooses to betray the Elohim while only pretending loyalty to his new patrons, insisting that the world rather than his repeated decisions is responsible for his precarious position. Jeong-woo rejects the final excuse

Aether reaches Tartarus amid the war and clashes with Kahn's group before Yeon-woo captures him. Faced with Jeong-woo's speaking vestige, he admits his loneliness and imagines that remaining in Arthia might have produced another life, but his regret does not undo the deliberate betrayals that destroyed the clan. Jeong-woo acknowledges his own failures as a leader yet rejects Aether's self-justification and kills him; the remaining soul loses its memories and stays in Yeon-woo's collection. Appearance and personality

Aether is presented as an Elohim-associated player whose bearing and holy power mark his divine ancestry more strongly than any single recurring costume. He carries himself with pride and reacts fiercely to perceived humiliation. Ambition and a genuine hunger for belonging coexist with insecurity: he can recognize his regret, but repeatedly protects his self-image by blaming Jeong-woo, his factions, or the world before accepting responsibility.

Abilities and powers

Aether is a sentient player with divine lineage and personal agency, not an artifact or vessel owned by a faction. His lineage supports holy power, while his training shapes that power into ranged light attacks and coordinated combat.

Divine lineage and holy power

As a descendant of an earlier divine species associated with the Elohim, Aether can generate and command substantial holy power. He forms pursuing arrows and spears of light, detonates them by command, and uses Holy Punishment of Light to saturate an area with attacks. The techniques can erase demonic growth and pressure ranker-level opponents, but remain avoidable or defensible through superior movement, barriers, and counterattacks. (Chapters 188–201)

Demonic energy and factional combat

After aligning with the Devil Army, Aether and his subordinates also move under dense demonic energy, demonstrating an acquired or borrowed combat alignment distinct from his original holy lineage. The change expands the forces he can fight beside without resolving divided loyalty. His mixed history offers no protection against higher powers: in Tartarus he can be restrained, interrogated, and killed, and the soul left afterward retains fear rather than his former skills or identity. Relationships

• Jeong-woo: Aether betrays Jeong-woo and later treats his memory as a curse. Their final meeting pairs Aether's regret with Jeong-woo's refusal to excuse conscious betrayal.
• Yeon-woo: Yeon-woo opposes Aether while protecting Brahm, later captures him in Tartarus, and retains the emptied soul after Jeong-woo kills him.
• Brahm: Aether pursues Brahm for the Elohim, making the alchemist's refusal to return another test of the status Aether is desperate to preserve.
• Kahn: Aether clashes with Kahn's group in Tartarus while both are caught in a wider attempt to frame and divide Yeon-woo's allies.
