Esteemed Nan Zhao is an early-stage Spirit Void cultivator assigned by the Sovereign Council to oversee the Outer Realm's first invasion beside Master Enlighten East. His poison is renowned on the same level as Great Desolation's, and his Spirit Void palm nearly kills Wang Lin before Wang turns a still-deadlier poison against him. (Chapters 1516 and 1519–1526)

Biography

Commander of the first invasion

Nan Zhao musters with Master Enlighten East, Grandmaster Yun Luo, the Fire Sparrow Clan ancestor, and ninety thousand cultivators at the Realm Sealing Formation. He is a principal battlefield overseer rather than the strategist: Yun Luo determines the invasion plan while he and the other third-step cultivators supply the force needed to break through resistance. (Chapters 1516–1517)

When the formation opens, Nan Zhao charges through and helps intercept the Heaven Splitting Axe so the army can enter. Yun Luo then orders Wang Lin killed. Nan Zhao and the Fire Sparrow ancestor turn toward him, judging Nan Zhao's Spirit Void cultivation alone sufficient for the task. (Chapter 1519)

First clash with Wang Lin

Nan Zhao crosses the distance with a blackened, poison-filled palm. The blow draws Wang Lin into his Joss Flame Realm, a black world populated by innumerable worshippers whose chanting pressures the target's will while a sky-sized palm descends. Wang Lin's ancient-god body punches through the manifestation, injures the center of Nan Zhao's real palm, and escapes, though he coughs blood from the exchange. Master Hong Shan's arrival prevents Nan Zhao from immediately continuing the pursuit. (Chapters 1519–1521)

Poison duel and death

Later in the battle, Nan Zhao breaks free from Hong Shan's suppression and attacks Wang Lin from behind. He releases five tornadoes made from the five-colored life-essence poison he has refined over countless years. Wang Lin answers with three drops of a more dangerous poison. Nan Zhao initially mistakes it for Great Desolation's and believes he can withstand it, but the resulting ocean devours all five tornadoes and prevents his escape. (Chapter 1526)

The poison melts Nan Zhao's flesh and bones into blood water. Wang Lin draws the remaining soul into the Emperor Furnace; later narration confirms Nan Zhao's death. Decades afterward, Wang Lin fuses the suppressed soul into one of Li Guang's arrow runes, ending any residual possibility that the captured soul remains independently active. (Chapters 1526, 1528, 1534, and 1577)

Appearance and personality

Nan Zhao appears as a handsome young man with narrow eyes and a cold glint. Mist surrounds him, and the mark between his eyebrows resembles rotating black mist. He licks his lips and smiles cruelly when approaching battle, displaying confidence in both his realm and poison; that confidence becomes panic when he meets a toxin he cannot identify or resist. (Chapters 1516, 1519, and 1526)

Abilities and cultivation

  • Early-stage Spirit Void: Nan Zhao's soul and origin soul have fused into a spirit soul, while his Joss Flame realm has fused with his will. This lets a seemingly simple palm carry the spiritual force of an entire inner world. The attack is far beyond ordinary Nirvana Void power, but Wang Lin's body can break its manifested palm and injure Nan Zhao through the connection. (Chapters 1516 and 1520)
  • Joss Flame Realm: His target experiences a black world filled with countless black-clothed worshippers. Their chanting agitates the mind and urges submission while the world's sky becomes a descending palm. The target's physical body remains outside, so breaking the internal manifestation can interrupt the real strike. (Chapter 1520)
  • Poison palm: Nan Zhao can saturate his hand with black poison and combine it with Spirit Void spiritual force for a close-range blow. Its full toxic effect on Wang Lin is never shown because Wang breaks the Joss Flame manifestation before direct contact. (Chapters 1519–1520)
  • Five-colored life-essence poison: Refined from accumulated poisons over countless years, the essence becomes five tornadoes and is considered comparable to Great Desolation's art. It is still completely devoured by Wang Lin's poison ocean, showing that fame and long refinement do not make it universally supreme. (Chapter 1526)
  • No essence treasure: Nan Zhao reaches the third step but does not form an essence treasure when opening the Void Gate. Later comparison explicitly distinguishes him from the rare cultivators who accomplish this. (Chapter 1561)
