Lin Yi is a representative from the Lu branch of the Corpse Sect who first arrives for Zhao's promotion examination and later acts as the messenger supervising access to the foreign battleground. He is notable less for direct combat than for the breadth of his knowledge about possession methods, rare treasures, soul flags, and sect techniques. (Chapters 94 and 114–118)

Biography

Arrival from Lu

Lin Yi first appears as a blue-robed youth traveling with a coffin, marking his connection to the Corpse Sect of the higher-ranked country of Lu. He enters the examination connected to Zhao's attempted promotion, placing him above the local sects in institutional standing even before his later duties are explained. (Chapter 94)

Messenger over Zhao

By the opening of the foreign battleground, Lin Yi is the messenger left in Zhao to coordinate with representatives of higher cultivation countries. Local Nascent Soul cultivators stand respectfully beside him. He identifies five Corpse Sect entrants as human puppets and disqualifies their group for failing to preserve its qualifying token, while carefully distinguishing that from a valid transfer of another sect's token. His rulings show both authority and close knowledge of Corpse Sect possession practice. (Chapter 114)

The disguised cultivator

When a mysterious youth appears during Teng Huayuan's pursuit of Wang Lin, Lin Yi recognizes that the apparent mid-stage Nascent Soul aura comes from an Illusion City Thousand Illusion Bead rather than the youth's true realm. Instead of exposing the deception, he openly asks whether Teng dares to attack, reasoning that someone carrying a rare rank-five treasure must have formidable backing. He then watches the confrontation with amusement and assesses each revealed treasure rather than joining the fight. (Chapters 115–117)

Lost opportunity at the gate

Lin Yi explains that Teng Huayuan's thirty-thousand-soul flag has not reached its first complete level and compares it with million- and billion-soul flags of higher-ranked powers. He also recognizes Underworld Sect Blue Ice and notices that the youth's flying sword is abnormal. When the ancient creature and Thousand Illusion Bead escape through the portal, Lin Yi tries to follow but is repelled. A higher-country giant then threatens him away from competing for credit, leaving Lin Yi angry that an object sought by the union escaped while Zhao was under his supervision. (Chapters 116–118)

Appearance and personality

Lin Yi is initially described as a blue-robed youth carrying a coffin, but at the later gathering he is described as extremely fat and habitually smiling. The corpus does not explain whether this is a changed appearance, a disguise, or a translation inconsistency. He is observant, knowledgeable, and politically cautious: he enjoys watching local experts misread a situation, yet retreats when a more powerful messenger makes the hierarchy explicit. (Chapters 94 and 114–118)

Abilities and cultivation
