Queen Rose
The Queen Rose is the Darklight Host's distinctive ocean-going schooner. Acquired by Cain and placed under Nila's practical command, it develops from a neglected trade vessel into the guild's principal ship for long-distance commerce, exploration, and naval action.
History
The Behar trade and refit
Cain receives the deed to Queen Rose from the King of Behar in exchange for one bolt of Royal Moon Silk, while a second bolt purchases fifty magical cannons. The forty-meter, single-deck schooner had previously come from the Wave Riders. Nila's inspection finds it barely seaworthy after years of neglect, and its bright Rose Oak hull and chaotic interior decoration make a poor first impression. The ship is nevertheless structurally valuable: Rose Oak is strong and slow to rot, and a local sailor explains that its unusual hull was built by a skilled former-life shipwright for speed. Cain commissions new sails, deck work, and interior repairs before taking it to sea. (Chapters 202–206)
Guild voyages and naval service
With Nila navigating and summoned sailors supplying a reliable crew, Queen Rose becomes both transport and working merchant vessel. Its speed helps the party pass pirate ships and later break through a blockade near Landis, although the ship's success there also depends on wind and water casters and Cain's summoned sea monsters rather than an innate offensive power of the hull. The vessel subsequently carries ore and other guild cargo on intercontinental journeys. After Nila becomes a Void Shaman, she can pull the loaded ship into the void for much faster travel, a capability belonging to its captain rather than to Queen Rose itself. (Chapters 210, 248, 389, and 395)
The ship remains active after Cain's journeys move elsewhere. Nila and Mythryll operate it on the trade routes, survive an attack connected to a wider blockade, and bring it into the Wave Riders' response. Cain later designates Queen Rose to spearhead the flotilla defending Argenta, supported by summoned forces and other vessels. It is still in service when its teal-and-gray sails are sighted arriving at the Eastern Continent with supplies and news. (Chapters 483, 489, and 554)
Abilities and properties
- Queen Rose is a forty-meter, three-masted schooner built from bright pink Rose Oak. The wood is strong and takes decades to begin rotting, but salt adheres to it unusually well and stains do not remain on it easily. (Chapters 202 and 204)
- Its specialized hull is fast even without magic. It is a single-deck merchant design with defensive space on the top deck, but it lacks the below-deck cannon battery of larger Wave Rider ships. (Chapters 204 and 206)
- The vessel can carry substantial cargo and support long ocean journeys. Its exceptional combat escapes and later void travel depend on Nila, magical crew support, and Cain's summons; the source does not establish those effects as enchantments intrinsic to the ship. (Chapters 248, 389, and 395)
