Nemu
Nemu is Cain's Felian bard companion, created to stabilize battles through music, charm, debuffs, and party-wide transformation. She appears in paired instances from the beginning and combines playful affection with practical judgment, using songs to pacify enemies, strengthen armies, disguise allies, and entertain communities. Her companion quality rises from Epic to Ancient before Cain releases every permanent summon, preserving Nemu as an independent level-500 Mythic being who remains with the Host by choice.
Biography
Felian companion
Nemu is created when Cain completes the Lesser Beastkin Companion requirement inside a dungeon whose inhabitants have been enraged by the smell of his demons. Two matched Felian bards appear, immediately argue over which one should keep the name, and then solve the actual crisis: one plays an enhancement song while the other pacifies the feral Beastkin. Their intervention stops the endless rush long enough for Cain's party to withdraw safely, demonstrating that the System selected support and control rather than another direct attacker. (Chapters 84–85)
Cain refuses to dismiss intelligent companions when Nemu asks whether he intends to do so, giving both instances a continuing place beside Vala. Nemu's first evening outside the dungeon becomes a public performance in a Dwarven boarding-house speakeasy, where lute, drum, singing, and a repertoire of local songs turn her into an immediate social success. Her instinctive role is therefore broader than combat: she can manage a hostile crowd with Pacify, then entertain the same community once danger has passed. (Chapter 85)
Her early mechanics make Nemu a force multiplier. Motivational music increases allied attack speed by one third and also improves dodge rate, while Weaken lowers enemy armor and strength by twenty percent. Pacify, slowing music, and other debuffs require relatively little mana but fade soon after she stops playing, forcing the two bards to divide active songs. Cain's Advisor skill later confirms Nemu as Epic quality and grants Bonded Forces; she chooses Felian Assassins who can disguise themselves, fight, scout, and even maintain guild property under her direction. (Chapters 84–86, 137, 139, and 144)
Nemu develops close ties with the rest of Cain's household while retaining a mischievous streak. She competes with her own duplicate for warm sleeping places, plays practical jokes on Vala and Nila, and uses her music at gatherings rather than remaining a military asset between battles. Her assassins also participate in split rescue operations, giving her an independently commanded team. These experiences turn an ability-generated companion into a recognizable adviser and performer whose preferences influence how the Host travels and lives. (Chapters 85, 144, 186, and 202)
Bard, advisor, and Ancient
As the Host expands onto the sea, Nemu repeatedly offers practical civilian advice. She argues for keeping Queen Rose's distinctive pink exterior, proposes refurbishing the interior instead, and asks that the ship's worn sailcloth be donated to an orphanage for clothing and small fishing boats. The suggestions preserve the ship's identity, avoid waste, and help local children. They also show why the arc treats her as an adviser: Nemu's playful presentation often carries workable compromises that Cain adopts. (Chapter 206)
Troubadour's Transformation becomes one of the group's most flexible noncombat tools. Through Nemu or a merger with her, Cain can turn allies into Felian or other cat-type Beastkin forms, from humanoid disguises to a house-cat body. The transformation lets the group swim in socially acceptable bodies, conceals Prince Sven during an escape, and gives King James an older Lynx identity for traveling among his subjects. It changes apparent name and species but does not hide class or level, so it is a disguise rather than complete status erasure. (Chapters 213, 240, 252, 259, and 271)
Nemu remains central in large engagements. She assigns Felian Assassins to perimeter and ambush defense, plays attack songs for fortified positions, and supplies a battle hymn that boosts the defenders during Earl Mills's invasion of Blood Sands. Because her music affects an army rather than only a single duel, she can shape a battle while staying behind the frontline. Her assassins also serve as guards in civilian settings, while her performances help festivals and new communities cohere after fighting ends. (Chapters 224, 267, 309, 327, and 347)
By Chapter 360, Nemu has reached Ancient quality, placing her and Nila below the newly Mythic Vala and Laura but far above their earlier Epic state. The comparison exposes a real ceiling: at equal level, Ancient Nemu cannot meaningfully overcome Mythic Awakening's resistance and regeneration. Her progression is nonetheless visible in the next morning's changed form and strengthened songs. She becomes a Songstress, gains the powerful Lost in Song charm, and carries substantially stronger musical buffs into the later Host. (Chapters 360–361)
Freedom and the later Host
Ancient advancement changes Nemu's presentation and control repertoire. In her more human Neko form she now wears an elegant pink-and-white kimono and moves freely despite its layers. Lost in Song entrances nearby listeners for as long as she continues playing, while her existing buffs increase in strength. The duration condition remains important: like her earlier debuffs, the charm depends on sustained performance, so interruption or stopping the music ends the effect rather than leaving permanent control behind. (Chapter 361)
Nemu continues as both traveler and storyteller. During Cain's search for advancement she supplies group humor, explains Laura's dragon nature to curious listeners, and is invited to tell the full story when a small fact captures an audience. She also remains affectionate and socially observant, often using teasing to expose tensions without turning them into formal conflict. Her music, stories, and transformations let the party move through unfamiliar communities with more options than intimidation alone would provide. (Chapters 401–409)
Cain frees all permanent summons and puppets during the anti-magic battle at the farm. Useful Dolls preserves their current status as level-500 Mythic beings while making them independent life forms, so Nemu's change is not a conventional awakening obtained through her own quality tree. It ends her existence as a dismissible companion but does not erase the relationships she formed. Soon afterward, Nemu joins the former companions in challenging Cain's claim that his thinking remains human, contributing a pointed joke rather than deferring to a former master's self-description. (Chapters 558 and 568)
The latest account places the original Nemu with Neffie as a self-appointed bodyguard. Cyrene suspects the assignment also reflects Nemu's preference for a comfortable sleeping companion, but it is still a chosen protective role maintained after release. Cain can contemplate calling new copies of his former companions, and later memories compare movement or animal ears to Nemu; those references do not give the independent original a higher realm. Her endpoint remains a level-500 Mythic Songstress serving the Host and guarding Neffie by choice. (Chapters 573, 679, and 702)
Appearance and personality
Nemu's natural Felian form is fully covered in short creamy-white fur that darkens to black at the muzzle, ears, hands, and padded feet. She has a distinctly feline face, a long fluffy tail with a black tip, and longer head fur resembling a bob cut. Her original black silk outfit resembles a belly dancer's costume, with a short top, split calf-length skirt, gold clasps, and belt. Equipped cloth armor appears mainly as colored metal bangles rather than replacing that default presentation. (Chapters 84 and 86)
Troubadour's Transformation lets Nemu adopt more human Neko and other cat-Beastkin bodies while retaining feline markers. One frequently used form has cream-colored hair with black-tipped ears and tail. After reaching Ancient quality, her Neko appearance gains a layered pink silk kimono patterned with white flowers, which she wears with effortless grace. Her shapes can be practical disguises as well as personal fashion, but the ability's available forms remain within the catlike Beastkin and Felian category shown in the corpus. (Chapters 206, 240, and 361)
She is affectionate, playful, musically confident, and fond of warm places, head pats, cuddling, and practical jokes. Nemu can pout or tease to influence Cain, yet her proposals about ship repairs, donations, security, and disguise are often perceptive. She enjoys attention without being careless about other people: Pacify prevents slaughter, her sailcloth plan aids orphans, and her latest chosen duty protects Neffie. Her humor becomes especially meaningful after freedom because it is no longer backed by an obligation to please or obey Cain. (Chapters 84–86, 139–144, 202, 206, 267, 558, 568, and 702)
Skills and class features
Nemu is a Felian Bard whose power initially derives from Cain's Beastkin Companion spell and later from the Advisor quality framework. She fights primarily through maintained music, party buffs, enemy debuffs, charm, transformation, and commanded Bonded Forces rather than direct weapon damage. Epic and Ancient quality strengthen that template; Useful Dolls later preserves her at level-500 Mythic while ending the summon state. Later Nemu copies created from Cain's records inherit his current summon scaling and must not be treated as the independent original's personal advancement. (Chapters 84–86, 137–139, 360–361, 558, and 679)
Bardic buffs and debuffs
Nemu can perform with lute, pan flute, drums, and harp and knows music adapted to several cultures. Her initial enhancement tune raises allied attack speed by one third and improves dodge rate. Weaken reduces enemy armor and strength by twenty percent, while other music can slow or pacify targets. These effects consume mana but not heavily. Their central limitation is upkeep: debuffs fade soon after performance stops, so two synchronized Nemu instances can practically maintain only two separate musical effects at once. (Chapters 84–86)
In army combat, Nemu selects songs according to formation needs. Pacify throttles an incoming crowd so only a manageable number continue attacking; motivational music accelerates a strong allied formation; battle hymns boost attack power across defenders while her Felian Assassins screen for ambushes. She can use slings and daggers, but the source calls buffing and debuffing her primary role. Magic resistance can reduce a debuff's chance to take effect, which is why Cain seeks cloth gear that improves application rather than merely direct damage. (Chapters 84–86, 224, and 327)
Songstress and Lost in Song
After reaching Ancient quality, Nemu's bard identity develops into Songstress. Her existing musical effects become significantly stronger, and Lost in Song adds an area charm that entrances those around her for the entire time she keeps playing. This is sustained crowd control, not permanent domination: ending or interrupting the performance removes the stated duration condition. The corpus does not give the charm's exact radius, mana cost, resistance formula, or cooldown, so those mechanics remain unconfirmed. (Chapters 360–361)
Her performances also have social applications that do not require magical coercion. Nemu entertains Dwarven patrons, joins local bands, supports festivals, and turns historical explanation into stories for an audience. The narrative distinguishes those willing listeners from enemies affected by Pacify or Lost in Song. That difference matters to her later independence: she continues performing and advising after the companion bond ends, but the text does not suggest that ordinary friendships or community popularity are products of the charm. (Chapters 85, 309, 347, 407, 558, and 702)
Troubadour's Transformation
Troubadour's Transformation can affect Nemu, individual allies, or her whole party, giving them cat-type Beastkin or Felian appearances. Demonstrated forms range from youthful Felian girls to an elderly Lynx fighter and a bobcat-sized house cat. A standard scan reflects the assumed name and species but continues to reveal class and level, leaving knowledgeable observers able to notice inconsistencies. Clothing compatibility and inconspicuous travel are major applications, and Cain can use the skill while merged with Nemu. (Chapters 213, 240, 252, 259, and 271)
The skill changes bodies convincingly enough for swimming, covert movement, and royal disguise, but its category restriction is explicit in practice: Nemu's available options are Beastkin forms of the feline family. It does not make targets invisible, suppress guild affiliation in every case, or erase combat statistics. After Cain frees the companions, he considers calling new companion copies; that possibility does not prove that the independent original has gained new forms or a higher quality. (Chapters 213, 240, 259, 558, and 679)
Companion twins and Bonded Forces
Cain's ability creates two matched Nemu instances who initially call one another clones and share the same identity. While bound, what one companion instance learns can pass to the other through Cain's companion structure, letting the pair divide songs, locations, and guard duties without becoming separately ranked characters. The bond also makes their messages part of Cain's System communication and allows Merger to grant him Troubadour's Transformation. Their doubled presence is therefore functional, but it does not mean Nemu advances twice. (Chapters 84–86, 202, 213, and 221)
Advisor status confirms Nemu as Epic quality and gives her Bonded Forces. She chooses Felian Assassins: smaller Seal Point Felians with disguise skills who can blend into crowds, guard structures, scout, attack, and perform household security. The ability initially provides four Greater Golem guardians and later scales through Cain's rank benefits. These assassins are summoned subordinates, not additional Nemu copies, and their strength can benefit from Cain's Puppet Master bonuses while remaining conditional on the Advisor framework. (Chapters 137, 139, 144, 186, 198, and 224)
Quality progression, release, and latest state
Nemu is already Epic when Advisors formalizes that quality, and by Chapter 360 she is Ancient. The direct comparison with Mythic Vala and Laura shows the gap: Ancient Nemu cannot overcome their 99.9-percent reduction against sub-Mythic attacks and regeneration at equal level. She does not then complete a separately described Mythic Awakening. Instead, Useful Dolls later rewrites all permanent summons as independent level-500 Mythic beings, preserving their current classes and skills while removing their summoned status. (Chapters 137, 360, and 558)
Release lets Nemu continue as a living individual, but the corpus does not confirm a later Spirit Awakening, Immortal realm, Divine rank, or new class for the original. Cain can still consider summoning fresh companion copies, and comparisons in the cultivation world invoke Nemu's speed or ears, but neither changes her own record. The latest confirmed original is an independent level-500 Mythic Songstress who appoints herself as Neffie's bodyguard and remains affiliated with the Darklight Host. (Chapters 558, 568, 573, 679, and 702)

Relationships
- Cain: Cain creates Nemu through his Beastkin Companion spell, keeps her active, advances her quality, and frequently relies on her music and transformation. After he frees her, Nemu remains close enough to challenge his assumptions and continue protecting his community without being subject to his command.
- Nemu's duplicate: The two matched instances initially dispute who is the original, then accept a shared name and divide songs, guarding, and social roles. Their bond-era synchronization lets the pair act efficiently, but their common identity is not evidence of separate progression paths.
- Vala: Vala is Nemu's earliest fellow companion and frequent target for teasing. Their contrasting methods—direct demonic force and musical support—make them effective together, while their jokes and shared guard duties help define the companions as a household rather than disposable summons.
- Laura: Nemu enjoys puncturing Laura's self-explanations, especially about her Pixie-sized form and constant talking. She nevertheless understands Laura's draconic nature well enough to explain it to outsiders and uses music and transformation to support their joint travels.
- Misha and Cyrene: Nemu treats the pair as family and favored sources of warmth, often curling up beside them or joining household teasing. Their acceptance helps turn her magically created existence into an ordinary domestic relationship.
- Neffie: After gaining freedom, Nemu appoints herself as Neffie's bodyguard. Comfort may be part of her motivation, but the latest account still places her in an ongoing protective position beside the Demon Queen's successor.
- Darklight Host: Nemu strengthens the Host in battle, disguises members during sensitive journeys, advises on practical decisions, entertains gatherings, and commands Felian security forces. She continues serving this community after the magical bond that originally enforced her place within it is gone.
