Laura
Laura is an Opal Prismatic Dragon created as one of Cain's permanent companions. She combines freezing breath, rapid recovery, flight, transformation, and draconic melee power with an irrepressibly social temperament and a love of sweets. Although the companion bond initially defines her existence and lets her coordinate with a duplicate, she retains her level-500 Mythic power when freed and chooses to continue adventuring with the Darklight Host.
Biography
Opal Prismatic Dragon
Laura is created as a juvenile Opal Prismatic Dragon when Cain gains a Lesser Dragon Companion. She immediately displays more personality than a passive mount: she is haughty, demands sweets, and treats Cain's Guild Bank as the hoard that fuels a dragon's growth. Her initial abilities—Ice Breath, Rapid Healing, Transformation, and Brutal Strikes—make her a mobile combatant able to shift between a horse-sized dragon body and a small Dragon Pixie form. Vala's correction quickly teaches her that confidence does not exempt her from group discipline. (Chapter 124)
Her early battles establish Ice Breath as both weapon and terrain control. Laura fills areas with freezing fog that slows and gradually freezes Ogres, funnels enemies into more favorable approaches, and immobilizes weaker stone targets outright. She can also build a temporary perimeter enchantment that triggers the breath effect when crossed. Cain's duplication gives the party two synchronized Laura instances, multiplying their scouting coverage and cold zones, while her small transformed body lets her perch on allies or reconnoiter without presenting a full dragon silhouette. (Chapters 125–126)
Cain's Advisor advancement raises Laura to Epic quality, and subsequent campaigns broaden her role beyond direct attacks. She transports passengers over sea and battlefield, shields an escaping prince with a high-altitude duplicate, and adapts Ice Breath to civilian engineering: at Long Fang it cools lava, helps seal dangerous flows, and sets road material while the settlement rebuilds. These applications show her cold as an environmental tool, though the same strength demands judgment about where and how broadly to deploy freezing fog. (Chapters 137, 252, and 266–267)
By the defense of Blood Sands, Laura is trusted to act against specialized threats. When a Null suppresses summoned forces, her own advanced quality lets her resist long enough to seize and remove him, allowing Vala and the other defenders to finish the invasion. Cain's later removal of the Advisor quality cap carries Laura and Vala beyond Ancient quality; Laura completes Mythic Awakening, gaining the overwhelming resistance associated with Mythic beings while also gaining access to regions where that new rank is only the local baseline. (Chapters 327, 360, and 385)
Mythic awakening and freedom
Laura initially responds to Mythic status with exuberant confidence, assuming that ordinary encounters can no longer challenge her. Vala tempers that view by explaining that Awakened regions contain peers and stronger beings. Laura nevertheless continues seeking difficult opponents and new places, using flight, transformation, close combat, and ice to support Cain's mobile group. Her durability against lower-quality enemies is extraordinary, but the narrative consistently places that advantage within a hierarchy rather than treating Mythic Awakening as absolute invulnerability. (Chapters 360, 385, 397, and 414)
Her value is not limited to combat. Laura welcomes the displaced Dragonkin Jin to Long Fang, explains the city's mixed population and training Tower, and makes hospitality an excuse to share food. She later travels with Evangeline to find the Librarian, bribing an elderly Tengu storyteller with caramel, discovering that an Ancient token points east, and helping trace “the end of the world” as a real location. During the same journey she watches a Kitsune newborn through the night, showing that her distractibility can coexist with attentive care. (Chapters 519 and 547–548)
Laura and Evangeline continue the search while other companions defend the Host's settlements. Laura asks questions that refine the End of the World clue and helps turn scattered testimony into a route toward its dimensional portal. The mission also illustrates her main noncombat limitation: she can be pulled off task by bookstores, bakeries, and sweets, so Evangeline must repeatedly redirect her. Even so, Laura keeps investigating rather than abandoning the assignment, balancing curiosity and appetite with loyalty to Cain's objective. (Chapters 547–548)
During the battle with Morgeth's forces, anti-magic repeatedly dismisses Cain's summoned troops and prevents bound companions from entering effectively. Cain uses Useful Dolls to free his permanent summons and puppets, ending Laura's command bond while preserving her level-500 Mythic existence. The release changes her from an entity sustained and coordinated through Cain's companion system into a living independent dragon. It does not erase her relationships or force her to leave, but it removes automatic structures she had relied on since creation. (Chapter 558)
An independent dragon
Laura's first expression of freedom is characteristically small and rebellious: she detours into a candy shop to investigate an unfamiliar toffee flavor. The deeper consequence is less amusing. Without the bond, her two formerly synchronized instances can no longer communicate automatically, and Laura loses the constant internal exchange she used to test ideas against herself. She fills the silence with nonstop social contact until Moana teaches the group how to rejoin the collective thought through a learnable skill. (Chapters 559 and 561)
Independence therefore requires Laura to rebuild coordination rather than simply enjoy the absence of orders. Once she masters the collective link, she is less lonely and returns to the Librarian mission with Evangeline and Moana. She transforms for speed, questions Tengu guards, reaches the End of the World settlement, and later tells Luna about the journey. The trip confirms that her curiosity, sociability, and allegiance to the group survive as personal traits rather than effects of Cain's control. (Chapters 561 and 567–568)
By the latest chapter in her planned arc, Laura participates in the Host's effort to turn guild daycares into wider academies. When the planners lack enough trained teachers, she proposes having Watchers or Echoes copy a knowledgeable teacher into puppets that can be distributed among new schools. She is reading about candy making during the discussion and jokes that she should define civilization, but her underlying proposal solves the immediate scaling problem and contributes to a long-term public education plan. (Chapter 587)
Appearance and personality
Laura's juvenile dragon form is about the size of a horse, with short legs, a thick tail, and pearly white scales whose colors shift with the light. Her eyes resemble glowing blue gemstones. Transformation gives her a small humanoid Dragon Pixie body with long pointed scaled ears, dragon wings, a dress matching her changing scales, and bare clawed feet. Her scales feel cold from her magic while the body underneath remains warm, a contrast that makes her both an ice creature and a comfortable companion outside combat. (Chapters 124–125)
She is proud, excitable, curious, and intensely motivated by sweets, snacks, soft fur, and unfamiliar experiences. Laura's impulsiveness creates genuine friction: she can ignore schedules, overwhelm strangers with questions, or need Vala, Evangeline, and Moana to redirect her. She is also hospitable and affectionate, welcoming newcomers, protecting passengers, entertaining children, and participating in civic plans. Freedom exposes how social she truly is; the loss of her automatic mental link leaves her lonely rather than relieved, and she actively rebuilds communal contact. (Chapters 124, 252, 519, 547–548, 559–561, and 587)
Skills and class features
Laura is an Opal Prismatic Dragon whose innate abilities advance through creature and summon quality rather than a player class. Her core kit comprises Ice Breath, Rapid Healing, Transformation, and Brutal Strikes, supplemented by flight, claws, physical strength, draconic senses, and limited enchantment. Cain's Companion and Advisor systems initially determine her grade and allow duplication and Bonded Forces; Mythic Awakening strengthens her innate abilities, while release from the bond preserves her level and quality but ends automatic companion coordination. (Chapters 124–125, 137, 360, and 558–561)
Dragon physiology, hoard, and transformation
Laura explains that a dragon's power comes from age and the size of its hoard. As a created juvenile, she treats access to Cain's Guild Bank as her hoard and does not require conventional equipment to use her natural attacks. Her full dragon form supplies flight, carrying capacity, claws, jaws, and greater travel speed; Dragon Pixie form trades size for maneuverability and social convenience. The transformation changes her silhouette rather than her identity, letting her scout settlements, perch on companions, and enter buildings without giving up her draconic abilities. (Chapters 124, 126, 252, and 561)
Rapid Healing gives her innate recovery, while Mythic quality provides extreme resistance to attacks and skills below Mythic grade. That protection is hierarchical, not unlimited: Vala warns that Mythic creatures can be weak newcomers in Awakened zones, and specialized Null effects still disrupt the summoned forces around Laura. Her natural cold also does not imply total elemental dominance; a later set of twelve Spirit-ranked copies using Ice Breath briefly loses ground against a cultivator's self-destructive fire before Cain lands the killing blow. That derivative scene demonstrates a matchup limit, not Laura's personal Spirit advancement. (Chapters 327, 360, 385, and 574)
Ice Breath and freezing fog
Ice Breath can be delivered as a direct blast or allowed to spread as cold fog. Against Ogres, the mist slows movement and progressively freezes bodies, while weaker animated stone targets freeze more quickly. Laura uses the area effect to channel advancing enemies into prepared routes and to cover broad approaches with duplicated instances. The breath also seals or cools lava and helps shape road material, demonstrating utility beyond damage. Its gradual action means strong targets may continue moving or resisting before the freeze takes full effect. (Chapters 125–126 and 266–267)
Laura can place a temporary enchantment around a camp so crossing the perimeter triggers Ice Breath and freezing fog. She claims that she could make an item carry a permanent version, but the locally demonstrated application is the temporary camp defense; the corpus does not show a named permanent Laura-made item. Area coverage is simultaneously the technique's strength and constraint: fog can deny space and slow groups, but it must be positioned with allies, civilians, and terrain in mind rather than treated as a precise single-target attack. (Chapter 125)
Melee combat and mobility
Brutal Strikes adds bleeding to Laura's physical attacks, complementing the claws, jaws, weight, and speed of her dragon body. Flight lets her alternate between aerial transport, scouting, and sudden close-range intervention. At Blood Sands, this mobility allows her to close on a Null who is neutralizing the defenders' summons, seize him, and remove him from the critical area. Her effectiveness comes from combining a durable natural body with elemental control rather than remaining at range behind Ice Breath. (Chapters 124, 252, and 327)
Duplication magnifies those roles while Laura remains a companion. Cain can deploy two synchronized instances to scout in different directions, carry separate passengers, or overlap fog zones; the bond lets them share awareness closely enough to act as one personality. After release, the two instances become properly separate and can no longer communicate or merge automatically. Laura must learn the collective-thought technique to restore communication, and the emotional disruption shows that duplication was not merely a numerical combat bonus but part of her ordinary decision-making. (Chapters 125–126, 252, and 559–561)
Companion grade and bond interactions
Cain's Advisor advancement promotes Laura to Epic quality in Chapter 137. The same system grants principal companions access to Bonded Forces and later permits quality growth beyond Ancient; removing its restriction leads to her Mythic Awakening. These are upgrades to Laura's companion template and innate draconic power, not a change to a player class. The corpus does not supply a separate named Opal Prismatic class tree, mana-cost schedule, or skill cooldowns, so her confirmed progression is best tracked through quality, awakening, and the later state change to independence. (Chapters 137 and 360)
The Companion bond carries both benefits and restrictions. It supports duplication, collective communication, Cain-directed deployment, and the broader Advisor framework, but it also makes Laura vulnerable to battlefields that dismiss or suppress summons. Freedom in Chapter 558 removes that dependency and preserves her as a level-500 Mythic dragon, allowing her to continue by choice. It also severs the mental coordination she took for granted. Later Laura copies summoned or merged by Cain can scale to Spirit quality, but those temporary derivatives do not raise the released original's recorded realm. (Chapters 558–561 and 574)
Mythic Awakening and latest state
Mythic Awakening raises Laura's innate abilities beyond Ancient quality and grants the defensive gulf between Mythic beings and sub-Mythic attacks. The advancement is powerful enough to make lesser opposition largely ineffective, yet the narrative immediately qualifies it through Awakened regions and same-tier threats. No later personal Spirit Awakening, cultivation realm, or Divine rank is confirmed for Laura. Her exact retained state at release is level 500 and Mythic quality. (Chapters 360, 385, and 558)
Her latest applications emphasize autonomy, travel, and community planning. Laura restores a collective link through a learned technique, completes the Librarian search with companions she chooses to follow, shares the experience with Luna, and proposes a scalable teacher-puppet solution for the Host's academies. Cain's Spirit-ranked Laura mergers demonstrate that her ice template remains valuable later, but they belong to his summoning progression. The original's latest source-grounded classification remains an independent level-500 Mythic Opal Prismatic Dragon. (Chapters 561, 567–569, 574, and 587)

Relationships
- Cain: Cain creates Laura, supplies the guild-bank hoard that supports her draconic growth, advances her quality, and deploys her as a companion. Freeing her ends his command authority without ending their attachment; Laura keeps pursuing his Librarian quest and continues treating him as the center of the unusual community she calls home.
- Vala: Vala corrects Laura's earliest arrogance and later reaches Mythic quality alongside her. Their temperaments contrast—Vala is wary and disciplined where Laura is exuberant—but Laura is comfortable enough with the demon to use her warm wings as a perch, and Vala's caution helps calibrate Laura's expectations of Awakened regions.
- Evangeline: Evangeline is Laura's principal partner during the Librarian search. She keeps the easily distracted dragon moving, while Laura contributes combat strength, questions, hospitality, and clues. Their teasing persists after freedom, but shared care for strangers and completion of the mission show a functional friendship beneath the exasperation.
- Moana: Moana helps Laura adjust to independent existence by finding her, redirecting her with the promise of rare candy, and teaching the collective-thought technique. Her tracking and portals complement Laura's mobility and curiosity during the final approach to the End of the World.
- Luna: Laura returns from the Librarian journey to share its stories with Luna and participates in the younger girl's education. Her willingness to experiment and ask unconventional questions makes her an entertaining counterpart to the more formal teachers around the child.
- Darklight Host: The Host provides Laura's hoard, family, and field of action. She transports members, defends settlements, welcomes newcomers, helps local families, and remains involved in the academy project after the magical obligation connecting her to Cain has ended.
