Evangeline
Evangeline is a Seraphim created as one of Cain's permanent companions, specializing in healing, barriers, and protective support. Her involuntary Grace of Seraphim makes ordinary social contact difficult even while it discourages aggression, but her discipline and curiosity let her serve as both battlefield guardian and investigator. Liberation from Cain's companion bond turns two formerly synchronized instances into independent Mythic people, one of whom later protects the Darklight Host beside Vala.
Biography
Seraphim companion
Evangeline is generated when Cain obtains a Seraphim companion and appears as a twenty-year-old Aspiring Archangel. She identifies her skills as primarily healing- and barrier-based and explains that her race can fight in either cloth or plate, even layering both. Cain's cloning produces two Evangeline instances whose combined Grace immediately overwhelms the room with affection and reduced aggression. The introduction establishes her central contradiction: she is designed to make others safer, yet her passive presence can deprive social encounters of ordinary emotional distance. (Chapter 198)
Cain's Advisor framework gives Evangeline Seraphim Crusaders as Bonded Forces, greatly expanding the holy troops available to the party when group effects and duplication stack. A dungeon reward later develops her smaller second pair of wings until it matches the first, which she treats as reaching a fully fledged adult form. That physical maturation is meaningful, but it is not one of the manifest's formal quality stages. Her progression continues through companion grades separately from the visible growth of her wings and from Cain's increasing ability to summon Seraphim templates. (Chapters 217 and 227)
Her Seraphim nature affects ordinary life as much as combat. Evangeline cannot completely disable Grace of Seraphim; even at its lowest setting, crowds become intensely affectionate, forcing Vala to help her escape unwanted attention. A racial passive keeps her clean, while the stern moral expectations of Inquisitors and other Seraphim repeatedly shape how outsiders read her behavior. Evangeline learns to navigate those expectations without abandoning curiosity, and her wary exchange with Vala gradually becomes cooperation rather than an automatic holy-versus-demonic feud. (Chapters 234, 249–250, and 266)
By the time Cain removes a quality restriction from the principal companions, Evangeline has reached the Ancient or adjacent Legendary band described by the corpus but cannot follow Vala and Laura into Mythic Awakening because too few Seraphim are available for the same path. She does gain the ability to Summon Heavenly Host, an ability associated with Legendary-and-higher Seraphim. This evidence supports the manifest's deliberately broad Ancient/Legendary wording; it does not justify retroactively calling her Mythic Awakened during this arc. (Chapters 360–361)
Ancient Seraphim and freedom
Evangeline applies her advancement as a protector during long-distance travel. She holds a defensive shield around Queen Rose's hull, but candidly notes that healing is her stronger specialty and that avoiding impacts remains preferable to trusting the barrier indefinitely. Later Cain sends her with Laura to investigate the missing Librarian because people are more willing to speak to a recognizable Seraphim than to him. Evangeline leads interviews, maintains the search's purpose amid distractions, and secures the compass-emblem clue that lets the group continue the trail. (Chapters 390 and 546–548)
During the conflict with Morgeth's forces, Cain frees every permanent companion and summon into an independent level-500 Mythic existence so anti-magic cannot dismiss them. Evangeline's transition is a change of quality and legal existence, not a confirmed Mythic Awakening: a prior chapter explicitly distinguishes her from companions who achieved that awakening. The release preserves the two embodied Evangeline instances while ending their direct mental link, memory sharing, and ability to merge through the old companion mechanics. (Chapters 546 and 558–561)
The consequences are emotionally immediate. One Evangeline has been traveling while the other remains at the farm, and once independent they can no longer simply exchange experiences across distance. The returning instance is eager to see her counterpart, while the former companions explain that duplicated selves now regard one another as twin sisters. Neither is designated the original, and later Seraphim or Evangeline-derived summons created through Cain's evolving abilities are separate templates rather than evidence that either liberated woman has personally advanced again. (Chapter 561)
Freedom does not dissolve Evangeline's community ties. She continues the provocative but affectionate exchanges with Vala that the group recognizes as friendship, and she defends Seraphim educational and moral customs even when their assumptions differ sharply from those of other cultures. By the latest confirmed report, an Evangeline and Vala work as law-enforcement officers who answer complaints about bandits attacking guild members and merchants. This is the last demonstrated role of a released Evangeline; the corpus does not identify which twin holds it or confirm a higher personal stage for either. (Chapters 568, 587, and 702)
Appearance and personality
Evangeline first appears at roughly 150 centimeters tall, with pale skin, blond hair, and white feathered wings wrapped around her body. She has two pairs of wings: an initially smaller lower pair later grows to match the first. Vala compares her appearance to a blond popular performer, emphasizing how striking and publicly recognizable she is. Evangeline can use cloth and plate armor together, and disguises can conceal her Seraphim form for travel, but the supplied chapters consistently associate her natural appearance with bright wings and a deliberately angelic presentation. (Chapters 198, 203, 227, and 403)
She is earnest, socially curious, and more pragmatic than her holy appearance suggests. Evangeline enjoys attention in theory but learns that magically intensified adoration is exhausting and unsafe. She can tease Vala, tolerate demonic humor, and still argue firmly for the ethics she learned from Seraphim culture. In danger she is honest about her limits—admitting that barriers are not her strongest field—and in investigation she remains focused enough to extract useful information. Her protective instincts ultimately find a civic outlet in responding to violence against ordinary guild members and traders. (Chapters 249–250, 390, 546–548, 568, 587, and 702)
Skills and class features
Evangeline's abilities originate in the Seraphim companion and creature-quality systems, not in a separately named player class. She begins as an Aspiring Archangel companion focused on healing and barriers, advances into the Ancient or Legendary quality band, and later becomes an independent level-500 Mythic being. That final state is distinct from Mythic Awakening, which the text does not award her. Cain's later Seraphim summons may inherit related spells, but their scaling cannot be transferred to either freed Evangeline as personal progression. (Chapters 198, 360–361, 546, 558, and 646–655)
Healing and Holy Light
Healing is Evangeline's declared specialty. The Seraphim spell family includes Holy Light, which heals allies while damaging enemies caught in the same radiance and can restore someone killed very recently. Cain's later use and explanation of that spell show the mechanics available through his Seraphim-derived repertoire, but the supplied chapters do not document Evangeline personally performing every resurrection application. Her secure personal role is therefore high-grade healing and holy support, with the broader racial spell description clarifying how those effects can distinguish friend from foe. (Chapters 198, 390, and 580)
This specialization shapes her tactical placement. Evangeline supports parties and ships from behind defensive layers, keeps injured allies active, and complements damage-focused companions rather than competing for frontline kills. Holy effects remain subject to scene-specific limits: resurrection applies to the recently dead rather than establishing unrestricted revival, and healing does not prevent a sufficiently destructive hit from occurring. Her own advice aboard Queen Rose is to avoid damage where possible, demonstrating that restorative power is a safety net rather than invulnerability. (Chapters 198, 390, and 580)
Barriers and protective support
Evangeline forms barriers strong enough to wrap Queen Rose's hull during dangerous travel. Later descriptions treat her as exceptionally capable with barriers, and Cain develops Layered Barrier from that Seraphim support tradition. Multiple layers improve the chance that one shield remains after an impact, but Evangeline says plainly that barriers are not her foremost specialty. Sustained or repeated strikes therefore call for maneuvering, reinforcement, or healing rather than confidence that a single shield can absorb everything indefinitely. (Chapters 390 and 655)
Her protection also operates through command resources. As a bonded Epic-quality companion, she receives Seraphim Crusaders through Bonded Forces, and group interactions can multiply the force available around Cain. Those Crusaders belong to the Advisor/companion framework rather than to a named personal summoning class. When Cain frees the permanent summons, companion-only benefits do not automatically remain part of the liberated person's kit, so later holy armies summoned by Cain should not be attributed to either independent Evangeline without direct evidence. (Chapters 217, 558, and 652)
Grace of Seraphim and racial traits
Grace of Seraphim is a passive aura that increases affection toward Evangeline and reduces aggression. She can lower its intensity but cannot fully turn it off, making it useful for calming hostility yet hazardous in crowds. Duplication initially doubles the effect and overwhelms nearby people, while even the minimum setting attracts intrusive adoration. The aura does not prove persuasion, consent, or reliable information gathering; in practice, Evangeline sometimes needs Vala's intimidating presence to keep admirers at a manageable distance. (Chapters 198 and 249–250)
Other Seraphim traits include natural cleanliness and the ability to wear cloth and plate simultaneously. Her developed wings support flight and mature into two equal pairs, while disguises allow less conspicuous travel when a visible Seraphim would distort an encounter. These qualities have social as well as mechanical consequences: recognizable holiness encourages witnesses to speak during the Librarian investigation, but Grace and cultural expectations can also bias reactions. Evangeline succeeds by combining the advantage with disciplined questioning rather than assuming that reverence guarantees truth. (Chapters 198, 227, 266, 403, and 546–548)
Heavenly Host, independence, and latest state
At the upper companion band, Evangeline gains Summon Heavenly Host, described as an ability available to Legendary-and-higher Seraphim. The corpus also calls her Ancient around the same transition, so the safest formal label remains the manifest's Ancient Seraphim in an Ancient/Legendary band. The ability indicates widened command potential but does not close the gap to Vala and Laura's Mythic Awakening, and it supplies no basis for assigning Evangeline a cultivation or Divine stage. (Chapters 360–361)
Release in Chapter 558 preserves each Evangeline as a level-500 Mythic being capable of living through anti-magic conditions that dismiss summons. It also ends synchronized duplicate communication, leaving two equal independent sisters with a shared past and separate later experiences. The final chapter confirms law-enforcement work for an Evangeline alongside Vala, but no further personal awakening or quality promotion. Temporary Seraphim or Evangeline-pattern summons seen later remain products of Cain's current summoning scale, not upgrades to the released pair. (Chapters 558–561, 646–655, and 702)

Relationships
- Cain: Cain creates and advances Evangeline as a permanent companion, then relinquishes the bond so she can exist independently. His later Seraphim summons use related templates, but they are not the freed Evangeline and do not determine her personal stage.
- Vala: Their Seraphim and demonic natures initially encourage distance and antagonistic humor. Vala protects Evangeline from crowds affected by Grace, their teasing becomes friendship, and one Evangeline later works beside Vala as a guild law-enforcement responder.
- The other Evangeline: The two begin as synchronized companion instances. Freedom ends shared awareness and merging, after which they regard one another as twin sisters; neither is identified as the original.
- Laura: Laura travels with Evangeline during the Librarian investigation. Evangeline's recognizable Seraphim identity opens conversations, while their combined persistence lets the group follow the trail.
- Nila: Evangeline protects Queen Rose with barriers while Nila captains and maneuvers it. Their roles demonstrate the difference between absorbing damage and preventing dangerous impacts through navigation.
