Char

Char is a Spirit Folk Shaman who joins Cain's early party and becomes one of the Darklight Host's foundational support specialists. Her magic combines mobile totems, lightning, and area effects, but her lasting contribution is organizational: after advancing to Totemic Shaman, she trains new members, enforces safe dungeon practice, and builds an education network across the Beginner's Valley.

Biography

Shaman of the founding party

Char first meets Cain's group as a level-53 pickup Shaman in a large dungeon expedition. Tall, slender, and dressed in a mixture of tribal hides and chain mail, she is immediately fascinated by Cain's golems and introduces herself while admiring them. Her first tactical contribution also establishes her ingenuity: because a healing totem appears on the ground but remains active when moved, she picks it up and carries it over her shoulder on a leather strap, turning a stationary support effect into a mobile one for the raid. (Chapter 26)

During the expedition, Char supplies healing, mana recovery, and cleansing while building an easy rapport with Mythryll. Her Mana Regeneration Totem has a short lifetime, so she repeatedly replaces it during recovery periods, and her Cure Poison Totem supports the healers against an area-poisoning boss. She explains that she has deliberately collected totems so she can remain useful in many situations. After the final boss and an informal celebration, Cain's party asks her to join them permanently; Char accepts without hesitation and becomes part of the group around which the new Darklight Host develops. (Chapters 28–30)

Char grows from pure support into a flexible battle caster without abandoning that foundation. She carries healing and mana totems, adds Stone Skin for dangerous physical attacks, casts lightning into clustered enemies, learns Lightning Armor, and later gains Earth's Wrath as a long-duration area spell. She also recognizes poor matchups—lightning is weak against fire lizards and arcs to too few targets for a swarm—and calls for Mythryll's cold or area magic instead. By the approach to level 100, she is already helping receive and train low-level recruits and has been appointed one of Cain's Lieutenants. (Chapters 31, 35, 39, 60–61, 190–197)

At level 100, Char selects Totemic Shaman. The advancement strengthens the duration and effects of her existing totems, adds new varieties, and unlocks Fire Towers: defensive totems that last thirty days and automatically attack creatures or people flagged as hostile. The class fits the role she has already assumed around guild houses and trainees, allowing her support magic to defend a fixed community even when she is not personally fighting beside every member. Her advancement party also underscores how deeply connected she has become to residents throughout the Beginner's Valley. (Chapter 199)

Totemic Shaman and organizer

Char then takes formal charge of new-member training. She groups low-level members for dungeons, arranges quests, matches their experience to an appropriate pace, and slows advancement when necessary to teach safe habits. When trainees ignore her warnings and lose their tank in the Beastkin Dungeon, Char confronts them and imposes a renewed examination program rather than treating rapid levels as success. Her methods produce multiple First Advancement teams able to use guild summons effectively, while cultivating respect for the founding members as stable mentors rather than an obsolete generation. (Chapters 211–212, 229, 236, and 258)

By her latest substantive appearance, Char has broadened training into civic education. Drawing on lessons from her past life as an empress, she teaches reading, mathematics, physics, projectile use, and general knowledge alongside combat preparation, and sends like-minded instructors to cities and villages throughout the Beginner's Valley. She views each student's level-100 departure with motherly pride and trusts outside Darklight Host branches to receive them. Now Spirit Folk and above level 200, she expects centuries more in which to raise, educate, and safely launch new generations of transfers. (Chapter 544)

Appearance and personality

Char is a tall, slender Spirit Folk woman with a muscular build and a deliberately primal presentation. Her early armor mixes tribal hides, leather, fur, beads, and chain mail; even conventional equipment adapts to that aesthetic, with one helmet appearing as a streak of blue war paint from above her eyebrow to her cheek. In casual dress she retains chain sleeves, a chain belt, leather ornaments, and fur-trimmed boots. The System's Spirit Folk random creation gives her high dexterity and repeatedly converts headgear into paint, feathers, or strings of beads. (Chapters 26, 29, 59, 68, and 70)

She is warm, playful, and intensely nurturing, repeatedly described as having neighborhood-mother energy. Char loves cute creatures, sweets, and welcoming new people, but the same protective instinct makes her strict when trainees endanger themselves. Her patience is strategic rather than indulgent: she accepts slower leveling, examinations, and discipline because she wants recruits to survive after leaving her care. Her former experience as an empress also gives her a long view of social stagnation, explaining why she treats broad education and continually updated knowledge as essential infrastructure rather than an optional kindness. (Chapters 26, 29, 67, 70, 229, 258, and 544)

Skills and class features

Char begins as a basic Shaman, a broad spellcasting class whose limited skill points force choices among many useful support and attack options. She emphasizes totems first, supplements them with learned spell books, and at level 100 advances to Totemic Shaman. Her later level is confirmed as above 200, but the corpus does not identify a second advancement class, awakened quality, or Mythic ability for her. (Chapters 29–30, 60–61, 197, 199, and 544)

Healing, mana, and defensive totems

The Healing Totem supplies persistent area recovery and is effective enough to serve as the benchmark for another low-level healing field. Char overcomes its normal stationary placement by lifting the knee-high construct and carrying it from a leather strap, keeping its aura with the moving party. Mana Regeneration Totems restore resources during and between pulls, but disappear after roughly thirty seconds and must be renewed. Her Cure Poison Totem provides group cleansing, and Stone Skin adds protection during encounters where a direct hit could overwhelm ordinary healing. (Chapters 26, 28–29, 31, 35, and 77)

These effects cost mana and depend on placement, duration, and the number of situations Char has spent points to cover. Early equipment can extend summon time, reduce totem cost, and amplify totem effects, showing that her performance is partly build-dependent rather than an unlimited class property. She prioritizes broad usefulness, but the base Shaman tree has more desirable abilities than one hundred levels provide points to maximize; reaching level 100 still leaves her choosing among valuable options. (Chapters 29, 68, and 197)

Lightning and area spellcraft

Char's offensive signature is lightning. She can send bolts between nearby targets, use the Rank-S channeled lightning as her principal single-target attack, and in a large battle sustain electricity around her body strongly enough to stun and burn nearby ground troops and low-flying Seraphim. Lightning Armor adds another learned spell, while bonuses to lightning damage and mana regeneration can strengthen sustained casting. Her attacks remain subject to ordinary matchup and coverage limits: fire lizards resist the element, and chain lightning cannot jump to enough bodies to clear a dense swarm alone. (Chapters 30–31, 39, 68, and 197)

Earth's Wrath fills part of that area gap by creating a zone of pelting stones that persists for almost thirty seconds. Char can cast it at the start of an encounter and return to lightning or support while the effect continues. Her decision to ask Mythryll for Blizzard when cold or wider coverage is needed illustrates how the build functions in practice: Char is a hybrid support caster who layers persistent effects and coordinates specialists, not a universal damage dealer who can ignore elemental resistance or target count. (Chapters 39 and 61)

Totemic Shaman advancement

Totemic Shaman improves both the duration and magnitude of Char's totems and supplies additional totem types. Its explicitly demonstrated signature is the Fire Tower, a long-lasting defensive totem that remains for thirty days and attacks anything the System flags as hostile. This turns a temporary party-support mechanic into base defense suitable for guild-house yards, but its behavior still relies on hostile designation; the text does not establish that it independently judges ambiguous threats or replaces living guards. (Chapter 199)

The advancement supports Char's institutional role as much as her combat role. Longer-lived effects let her protect training spaces and communities, while the variety of ordinary totems allows her to adapt low-level groups without doing every task for them. The corpus does not enumerate every new Totemic Shaman totem, so Fire Towers, strengthened duration, and stronger effects are the confirmed mechanics; additional named offensive, healing, or control totems should not be inferred. (Chapters 199, 211–212, and 258)

Guild-granted summons and latest state

Cain's Lieutenant appointment and guild skills give Char access to resources that are not native Totemic Shaman features. In battle she can call Primordial Shamans and Fire Elementals, and the guild's Epic Personal Guard summons help the teams she trains challenge higher-level content. These are permissions and benefits supplied by Cain's leadership framework; they demonstrate how Char combines guild infrastructure with her own support kit, but they do not establish a personal summoner class or Companion bond. (Chapters 183, 195–197, and 258)

At her latest confirmed state Char is a Spirit Folk above level 200, still based in the Beginner's Valley and focused on education. Her training includes academics, practical projectile physics, utility spells, dungeon procedure, and the social preparation needed for students to work with Host outreach branches after level 100. No later personal awakening or class title is supplied. Her endpoint progression is therefore Totemic Shaman and senior organizer, with longevity from her Spirit Folk body rather than confirmed immortality. (Chapter 544)

Relationships

  • Cain: Char recognizes the value of Cain's summons during their first raid and accepts a permanent place in his party. He later appoints her as a Lieutenant and trusts her with new members, defensive resources, and guild infrastructure. Char in turn converts his leveling advantages into a disciplined training system rather than chasing speed alone.
  • Mythryll: Char and Mythryll become close almost immediately, with an affectionate dynamic that observers compare to mother and daughter. They adventure, shop, and coordinate spells together; Char routinely calls for Mythryll's Blizzard when lightning is poorly suited to the target.
  • Misha: Char supports Misha's healing with persistent totems and protects her physically during early dungeon hazards. Their complementary healing roles allow Misha to focus on urgent targets while Char maintains group-wide recovery, cleansing, and mana support.
  • Cixelcid and Lickity: Char remains close to the early Sunnybrook guild community around Cid and Lickity. As their family and crafting responsibilities grow, they help with her training work, and their children become part of the broader generation she teaches and protects.
  • Darklight Host trainees: Char treats recruits as students whose survival matters more than rapid advancement. She controls dungeon pace, arranges quests and gear, disciplines reckless groups, celebrates their first advancement, and extends that care into a valley-wide general-education program.
