Kael's Research Notebooks

Kael's Research Notebooks are the growing collection of alchemical, medical, and soul-magic notes that Kael writes while helping Zorian investigate the loop and its enemies. Zorian's ability to memorize complete physical blueprints and recreate them in later restarts turns the notebooks into a durable channel for Kael's otherwise temporary research.

History

Research carried across restarts

Kael first gives Zorian a cheap, featureless notebook filled with unfamiliar diagrams, technical jargon, and his analysis of Zorian's soul marker. Because an ordinary book cannot cross a restart, Ilsa teaches Zorian an alteration method that stores an object's complete blueprint in his mind and recreates it from matching raw materials. Kael immediately expands his contribution from one book to four completed notebooks and another in progress. In later restarts, Zorian hands those reconstructed volumes to the new Kael, who can verify his own codes and notation and continue working instead of starting over. (Chapters 39–40, 46, and 48)

The archive grows as Kael studies alchemy, medicine, necromancy, Sudomir's soul magic, and the loop's marker. At the end of each month he returns the updated books to Zorian for another transfer. Zorian also shares selected volumes with allies such as Silverlake, using Kael's unmistakable work to shorten the process of convincing skeptical experts and to coordinate research among people who otherwise forget every restart. Loss and reconstruction

Most of the coalition's physical notes are lost when the emergency exit strategy fails, but Zorian preserves Kael's work more completely than many other archives because of their friendship. In the real month he delays returning it while deciding how to reward Kael without exposing the time loop. He eventually places a reconstructed book and collection of notebooks inside Kael's locked, warded room without leaving an explanation. Kael recognizes years of his own wording, codes, symbols, and handwriting but has no memory of producing them, receiving both an extraordinary intellectual inheritance and a mystery he cannot resolve. Abilities and properties

• The notebooks contain densely packed diagrams, symbols, codes, brief explanatory passages, and specialized alchemical, medical, and soul-magic terminology written in Kael's distinctive style. (Chapters 39 and 107)
• Zorian transfers them by memorizing their physical blueprints and recreating each volume from a blank book of matching dimensions and ink. This reproduces the pages rather than giving him immediate understanding of Kael's technical content. (Chapters 39 and 48)
• The method lets Kael accumulate years of research across repeated months, but Zorian's early blueprint capacity is limited and large collections require significant mental storage. (Chapters 39, 48, and 59)
• The reconstructed archive can authenticate itself to Kael through repeated habits of wording, notation, and code that he considers unreasonable for another person to fake. (Chapter 107)
• These are ordinary physical notebooks carrying extraordinary accumulated information; no single cover color or magical property belongs to the collection. (Chapters 39 and 107)
