Ilsa Zileti is an academy teacher, alteration expert, and dimensional-magic specialist who becomes one of Zorian Kazinski's most consequential professional sponsors. She first certifies him and arranges his third-year education, then repeatedly responds to demonstrated skill by opening paths into advanced instruction. Her lessons in shaping, teleportation, alteration, and information-preserving blueprints support abilities that later become essential to Zorian's survival. Biography

Sponsor and dimensionalism teacher

Ilsa first meets Zorian as the academy representative sent to discuss his first-circle certification. She verifies his basic mana control through the sealed certificate, explains his legal status and new housing, and helps choose his electives. Because her visit is late, every mentor except Xvim Chao has filled his quota; Ilsa assigns Xvim while defending his methods against student rumor. The arrangement initially disappoints Zorian, but it gives him certification, secure academy access, and the demanding mentor who will eventually transform his shaping. Ilsa's role is therefore administrative at first, yet her judgment determines the structure of his magical education. (Chapter 1)

As Zorian's Essential Invocations teacher, Ilsa favors demonstrations that make theory operational. She uses light, levitation, disruption, and ignition spells to show why structured magic is bounded, why brute-force dispelling can be dangerous, and why a magical cause may leave a nonmagical effect behind. She also uses animation magic to accelerate dance instruction and delegates responsibility to capable students. These lessons reveal a teacher who is comfortable with spectacle but not satisfied by spectacle alone: the visible effect exists to expose an underlying mechanism, and students are expected to reason from the result. Repeated restarts allow Zorian to approach Ilsa with increasingly advanced evidence. Ilsa successfully teaches the basic teleport spell and explains a paired alteration technique that stores an object's blueprint in the mind so a physical copy can later be reconstructed from suitable material. Zorian adapts the method to preserve notebooks across restarts, turning her practical suggestion into a major information-transfer tool. She also handles his psychic circumstances discreetly, arranges a controlled practice partner when asked, and warns him against reckless Dungeon work. By the later early restarts, sponsorship has become reciprocal trust: Ilsa offers specialist access and institutional protection, while expecting work, restraint, and honest evidence in return. Temporary ally and restored teacher

Ilsa eventually receives a temporary marker and learns the scale of Zorian's concealed life. She quickly recognizes how repeated time, abundant resources, and extreme pressure explain his apparently impossible breadth of skill. The coalition values more than her magic: she knows many people, is owed favors, and can navigate academy bureaucracy and professional negotiations that its more abrasive members cannot. Her alteration expertise also offers a way to accelerate production of mechanical bodies for Zorian's golems, even though animation itself is outside her role. Ilsa joins because the escape needs technical specialists and credible adults who can turn secret knowledge into coordinated action. (Chapter 86)

The loop also confronts Ilsa with her oldest magical ambition. As a younger mage she had pursued “true creation,” studying illusion, conjuration, alteration, and dimensional methods in hopes of reproducing matter creation. Panaxeth exploits that desire by offering its secrets, but Ilsa refuses the bargain and instead extracts information about how the primordial is bonded to the Sovereign Gate. She explains that the Gate uses its linked primordial as the substance of the repeating world and identifies the consequence that Panaxeth can observe events within it. Curiosity makes the offer genuinely tempting, yet professional analysis and loyalty turn the encounter into useful escape research rather than betrayal. (Chapters 23, 86, and 90)

Ilsa remains with the coalition through the attempt to open a physical exit. When the breach is stabilized and the route is finally ready, the Guardian of the Threshold attacks with tracking beams that bypass hastily raised defenses. One strikes Ilsa and kills her immediately, only moments before the group could begin evacuating. Her death does not erase her contribution to the knowledge and cooperation that reached that point, but it prevents her copied self from carrying any accumulated skill or memory into reality. She is one of several temporary allies whose labor makes Zorian's escape possible without allowing them to share its continuity. (Chapter 91)

The real-world Ilsa is alive when the month begins again, but she knows Zorian only as a newly certified student. She repeats the certification visit, returns to her normal classroom, and later contains the fire when Veyers and a fire drake turn an argument into a dangerous fight. Xvim relies on that same professional authority when planning to recruit her for civilian evacuation, particularly because her friendship with Imaya Kuroshka lends credibility. After the invasion, Ilsa has the academy ward Imaya's house, teaches Zorian's makeshift study group, and contributes alteration expertise to reconstruction. Appearance and personality

Ilsa is an adult human woman who wears glasses and presents herself in practical but expensive professional clothing. At her first appearance she is dressed in khaki-colored clothes, carries a thick academy book, and repeatedly adjusts her glasses while assessing Zorian. Later scenes retain the glasses as her most consistent visual marker, including moments when she pushes them up to think or contain frustration. Her hair, complexion, and more decorative features are not emphasized; her appearance is defined chiefly by mature professional composure and the tools of an active teacher. She is patient, observant, pragmatic, and mildly theatrical. Ilsa can hold a class with staged demonstrations, recognize when a student needs a challenge, and turn bureaucratic obligations into negotiated opportunities. She also has limits: prolonged childish questioning wears on her patience, suspicious requests provoke pointed scrutiny, and Veyers's disruption eventually heats her otherwise controlled tone. Even then, she favors procedure and proportion over humiliation, directing grievances toward the proper office and trying to explain how self-destructive conduct will damage the student's own case. Ambition remains important beneath her institutional manner. Ilsa once built several specialties around the dream of recreating true conjuration and still believes matter creation may be less impossible than orthodox teaching claims. Her most distinctive applied technique records the complete blueprint of an object in the caster's mind. With suitable raw materials—such as a blank book and ink—the stored design can be used to reconstruct a physical copy without carrying the original. The spell combination demands advanced alteration and precise shaping, consumes mental storage, and does not let the caster read a stored book directly; its purpose is reproduction. Ilsa's conjuration studies grew from a desire to reproduce legendary creation of matter. She theorized that apparent creation might instead summon material from an unknown location and developed a spell that partially realizes that idea inside a specially prepared room. The result is unreliable: its mana cost varies wildly with the requested substance, and an attempt to create gold once displaced ancient coins from a nearby museum. The experiment demonstrates real invention and a connection between conjuration, alteration, and dimensional transfer, but not true matter creation from nothing. Dimensional magic

Ilsa teaches dimensionalism as a progression of prerequisites rather than a single spectacular spell. Lesser dimensional effects establish the necessary shaping and theory before the basic teleport invocation, and even a talented apprentice must demonstrate advanced competence before she will provide it. The teleport spell can hand the caster to Cyoria's prepared beacon and access point, enabling fast movement through infrastructure rather than unrestricted arrival at any imagined destination. Her own dimensional expertise is advanced enough that the real-month planners consider her suitable to support an authoritative evacuation alongside Xvim. Combined with alteration research, it also lets her reason about pocket spaces, transported matter, and the Sovereign Gate's structure. However, the most extreme dimensional achievements associated with Zorian—opening long-range gates, constructing the time-loop exit, and bridging worlds—are not established as spells Ilsa can perform alone. Crisis response and professional influence

Ilsa is not presented as a dedicated battlemage, but she can function during emergencies. During invasion restarts she organizes students, communicates through the academy's sound system, participates in evacuation decisions, recruits combat-capable defenders when the wards are threatened, and identifies dangerous monsters for them. In the real month she remains in a burning classroom, contains spreading fire, restrains combatants, creates a floating disc for an unconscious student, and assembles witnesses for the institutional response. Her magic and authority work together: containment prevents immediate harm, while procedure prevents the aftermath from becoming another uncontrolled conflict. (Chapters 9, 40, and 95)

Her social reach is a separate practical strength. Ilsa knows professional contacts, has favors she can call upon, and can make extraordinary proposals sound credible to academy staff and civilians. This is why the temporary coalition recruits her and why Xvim expects her support to persuade Imaya during evacuation. It does not make every institution obey her, and she is not the academy's ultimate decision-maker, but it lets her open access, smooth disputes, arrange teaching, and secure additional wards for the post-invasion classroom.
