Traveller's Memory Sword

The Traveller’s Memory Sword is Hannah Kim’s old enchanted blade, manifested by a one-use ritual and inherited by Alex Roth. Its pommel holds a shard of Hannah’s memory, while its metal conducts mana and the Traveller’s teleportation power; it later becomes the blade of Alex’s Aeld Staff.

History

Hannah’s ritual and memory shard

Hannah records in the Book of the Traveller that she teleported a thought into the pommel of her old sword and left a ritual capable of summoning the weapon once. After decoding the journal, Alex places the book and Hannah’s recovered artefact within that ritual and calls on her power. A fine blade of unfamiliar metal appears, bearing runes and a pommel made from copper wire wrapped around silicon. The ritual unexpectedly brings Hannah’s spirit with it for a brief conversation, but she distinguishes herself from the memory stored in the weapon. (Chapters 531–535)

When Hannah returns to the afterworld, Alex ties the sword to a rope and carries it out of the Cretalikon. He accesses its memory shard and learns a limited record concerning Kelda and the hidden church, then explains the distinction to Baelin: some shards imitate a person, but this one is preserved information rather than Hannah’s continuing soul. No transfer ceremony is described, yet Hannah knows Alex summoned the weapon for her unfinished work and leaves it in his custody. (Chapters 535, 541, and 544)

A General’s weapon

Alex does not initially fight with the sword because the Mark of the Fool blocks sword use in combat. Once that Mark becomes the Mark of the General, he studies the weapon directly. It is light and well balanced toward the hilt, with a sharp, manoeuvrable blade rather than the heavier cutting power of Theresa’s Twinblade. Mana passes through it easily, multiple enchantments remain, and a residue of Hannah’s power lies within it, though not enough to make the sword act by itself. Alex uses the General’s accumulated lessons to turn dance, anatomy, and tool experience into a new sword style. (Chapters 741 and 744–746)

The Aeld sword-staff

Wanting the reach of a pole weapon without abandoning his living staff, Alex plans “Operation Aeld-Sword-Staff.” The source does not separately describe the joining procedure, but the completed weapon appears when he parries the First Apostle with a sword blade concealed beneath cloth at the staff’s end. The fusion lets him thrust, sweep, and cast through one implement while preserving both the aeld’s stored magic and the sword’s connection to Hannah. (Chapters 746–747 and 763–764)

During the final campaign, Alex channels the Traveller’s power through the blade to divide enemies, dungeon cores, and weapons by teleporting their separated portions away. He also stabs the Ravener with the sword and teleports the construct into a destructive spell, using the blade as a direct contact point for Hannah’s energy. The sword remains fused to the staff when Hannah returns and when the Ravener dies. Years later Alex still carries the sword-staff, and no detachment, destruction, or new custodian is stated. Abilities and properties

• The sword has a fine, light blade of unidentified metal, runes along its side, and a silicon pommel wrapped in copper wire. Its maker, original forging method, and complete enchantment list are not given. (Chapter 533)
• Its pommel stores a shard of Hannah’s memory concerning Kelda and the hidden church. The shard is recorded information and must not be treated as ownership or imprisonment of Hannah’s soul. (Chapters 533–535 and 544)
• The metal readily conducts Alex’s mana and retains a remnant of the Traveller’s power. The residue is insufficient for autonomous action, so the sword’s strongest later effects depend on Alex channelling his own connection to Hannah. (Chapter 745)
• As a physical weapon it is sharp, balanced toward the hilt, and manoeuvrable, but it lacks the heavy cutting profile of the Twinblade and initially depends on Alex learning how to wield it. (Chapters 745–746)
• When fused with the Aeld Staff, it creates a sword-staff that combines reach, spellcasting, and cutting in one implement. The corpus demonstrates the finished fusion but does not explain whether it can be safely reversed. (Chapters 763–764)
• Traveller energy channelled along the blade can teleport through what it cuts, separating limbs, weapons, dungeon cores, or other targets across distance. The effect is an application of Hannah’s power through the sword, not evidence that any unaided wielder can reproduce it. (Chapters 861, 876, and 885)
