Mana Ejection Potion
The Mana Ejection Potion is Elder Blodeuwedd's mana-draining alchemical preparation. Contact with a mana-rich target forces mana out of it, making the potion valuable against Ravener-spawn and eventually against the Ravener itself.
History
From emergency tonic to staff design
Alex receives a limited supply from Elder Blodeuwedd in the Crymlyn Swamp and later credits the potion with saving lives during an invisible Ravener-spawn attack at the Research Castle. Its original application is awkward: the tonic must be painted onto a moving target, an approach that wastes liquid and depends on precision the enemy is unlikely to permit. Because replacing the potion would require returning to the distant swamp and its dangerous circumstances, Alex studies its magical composition and designs his Aeld staff to reproduce the mana-expulsion effect through a stamped symbol rather than consume the remaining tonic with every use. (Chapters 464–465)
Poisoning the Ravener
Near the end of the campaign, the potion's principle returns on a far larger scale. Alex, Jules, and Isolde prepare a compound of mana-creature toxins, bane shards, and Blodeuwedd's mana-draining potion. Alex injects it into the Ravener's crystalline mana-producing centre with a bane-needle device. As the mixture spreads, the surrounding mana diminishes, the node's colours decay, and sections of crystal crack into lifeless dust. The potion is one component of a combined weapon, so the damage cannot be attributed to it alone, but its mana-draining function directly complements the device's pumping action. (Chapter 886)
Abilities and properties
- When applied to a mana-rich creature, the potion causes mana expulsion or draining. (Chapters 464–465)
- Direct use requires coating the target, which is difficult against a moving opponent and risks wasting a scarce supply. (Chapter 465)
- Its magical composition can inform reusable enchantment design, though reproducing the effect requires extensive analysis and item-crafting work. (Chapter 465)
- In a combined anti-Ravener venom, it helps drain a vast crystalline mana node while other ingredients poison and physically shred the structure. (Chapter 886)
