Troy is a Rhinean baker who becomes the principal kitchen worker at the Roth Family Bakery. His testimony exposes the bakery’s neglect under Govert Beerensteyn, while his skill and loyalty help Alex Roth rebuild it into a successful home and business.

Biography

The Baker's Tale to The Circle

Troy meets Alex as the exhausted last employee of Mermaid’s Cakes, bent over his work and bearing welts after years under Govert’s abusive management. He guides Alex through the decaying bakery and living quarters, confirms the extent of the neglect, and quietly enjoys watching Alex dismantle Govert’s attempt to sell the ruin at an inflated price. Once Alex takes control, Troy stays to clean, bake, and restore a workplace whose new ovens, ingredients, and equipment let him take pleasure in his trade again. (Chapters 451–460 and 492)

Alex’s treatment of Troy changes the baker’s place in the household as well as his working conditions. Troy and his wife are invited to the family housewarming, where he helps prepare the feast and is explicitly welcomed at the table rather than kept apart as hired labour. He remains part of the bakery’s operations through its later success and is present among the wider circle celebrating at the end of the war, marking the durable community that grew out of the rescued business. Appearance and personality

Troy is introduced stooped with exhaustion, wiping his brow and looking close to collapse after sustained overwork. He speaks bluntly about the bakery’s condition and carries a dry sense of humour, but becomes bright, talkative, and even giggling when given proper tools and respect. He is conscientious, appreciative, and initially uncertain whether an employee belongs at his employer’s private celebration. (Chapters 451–453, 492, and 500)

Magic, abilities, and skills

Troy demonstrates professional baking, kitchen organisation, recipe preparation, and the ability to produce breads, pastries, and elaborate dishes for both customers and a large household celebration. His effectiveness improves when Alex supplies sound ovens and good ingredients, showing that his earlier poor conditions—not lack of skill—limited his work. No spellcasting, mana use, or supernatural ability is attributed to him. (Chapters 451–452 and 492–500)
