Kartika
Kartika is a six-armed wizard on Generasi’s governing council. She converts the city’s wealth, laws, and military leverage into protection for its citizens, first negotiating the Greymoor expedition and later helping defend Alex Roth’s status against Thameland.
Biography
The Patterns and Scripts of Time (Interlude) to Like a Marriage (Interlude)
Kartika accompanies Baelin to Ussex with elite battlemages and takes the lead when their broad proposal becomes legal detail. She offers to purchase land as Generasian territory, build and fund a dungeon-research expedition, destroy cores, and provide Thameland material support. Her precise terms satisfy King Athelstan without yielding the jurisdiction the university needs, creating the legal foundation that later prevents Thameish agents from simply commanding Greymoor. (Chapters 188–189)
It's Strange When It Happens Twice
Kartika attends the Roth Family Bakery’s opening as one of Baelin’s powerful allies. When Govert Beerensteyn’s hired actors falsely claim the food caused illness, she recites Generasi’s severe business-defamation penalties from memory while the conspirators are exposed. Her intervention turns political authority toward protecting a young local enterprise, helps end the sabotage, and establishes her as a councillor Alex can recognise as both formidable and practically supportive. (Chapter 561)
The Silent Crew and the New Deal to Finally Free
Kartika later negotiates a city order for Alex and Toraka’s golems, pressing them on schedule and capacity while expanding the purchase when their proposal proves useful. When Thameland demands Alex’s extradition, she acknowledges that one councillor cannot decide alone and brings the case before the whole wizard council. She then argues from treaty law, Generasian citizenship, investment, and military reality, enabling the city to refuse the demand and confront the king from a position of institutional unity. (Chapters 658–690 and 895)
Appearance and personality
Kartika is a short woman with six chestnut-coloured hands and long black hair, often keeping four arms folded behind her back. She is punctual, politically smooth, exact with figures and law, and visibly amused when arrogant schemes collapse. Her friendliness does not soften her negotiating discipline: she treats promises, jurisdiction, production schedules, and penalties as concrete obligations rather than social decoration. (Chapters 188–189, 561, and 658–690)
Magic, abilities, and skills
Kartika is identified as a wizard-councillor and travels with elite battlemages, but the supplied scenes focus on governance rather than displaying a named signature spell. Her demonstrated skills are treaty design, legal recall, procurement, negotiation, and coordinating the council’s power. Claims about a specific spell tier or combat specialty would exceed the available evidence. (Chapters 188–189 and 561–690)
Her six arms let her hold and review multiple pages of a proposal at once, complementing the administrative work shown in her negotiations. Political authority is not unilateral: she explicitly cannot resolve Alex’s extradition by herself and must convene the wizard council. Once aligned, however, the council can defend Generasian jurisdiction through money, law, and credible military force. (Chapters 658–690)
