Dragon Bones

The Dragon Bones are the sealed, artifact-like remains associated with Araxys and the indispensable physical anchor sought by the cult for the Black Dragon's return.

History

Theft, Traces, and the Missing Seal

The bones enter the present conflict as stolen remains connected to the coming Red Moon. Vanitas's knowledge that the cult intends to unseal them gives him leverage over Araxys agents who believe only their inner circle understands the goal. Their residue also becomes an identifying trace: Soliette recognizes the same signature around Abyss, linking apparently separate forms of dark magic to the Dragon's remains. Deciphering the Archmage's Work

Fyodor lacks both the bones' location and the ability to break Archmage Zen's seal, while Vanitas can read the demonic language and eventually works directly on its layered formulas. He and Kafka dismantle portions of the protection over several stages, though some structures remain beyond ordinary analysis. When the inner remains finally respond to Vanitas's magic, the unsealing supports Araxys's descent over Aetherion. (Chapters 251, 288–295, 308, 310, and 325)

Abilities and properties

• Retain a distinctive dark magical trace that can be recognized around related phenomena. (Chapter 197)
• Are protected by a layered seal created by Zen and resistant even to Fyodor's centuries of study. (Chapters 288–295)
• Function as a required resurrection anchor rather than an inert historical specimen. (Chapters 251, 308, and 310)
• Remain Araxys's body or bodily remnant, not property in the ordinary sense; cultists and scholars exercise custody over the sealed remains rather than rightful ownership. (Chapters 205 and 310)
