Albert's Golden Plaques

Albert's Golden Plaques are several distinct tokens bearing the Rowoon crown prince's insignia. Albert issues them to Cale as limited instruments of royal credit and authority, allowing Cale to turn political favor into purchases, withdrawals, contracts, and covert leverage.

History

Reward for the Plaza Terror Incident

After the Plaza Terror Incident, Albert gives Cale a plaque authorizing two purchases at the Crown's expense. Cale uses its authority in negotiations surrounding the Magic Tower, shows it to Bilose, and stamps the Whipper promissory note with it. One authorized use remains after that transaction. (Chapters 10, 13, and 15–16)

The Land of Death mission

Albert later issues a new plaque for Cale's mission to the Land of Death. Cale places it before the dark elves as royal authorization and uses it to obtain two hundred thousand silver coins, all of which are consumed while acquiring the Fire of Destruction. (Chapters 21 and 24)

Imperial preparations

For the operation against the Alchemist's Bell Tower, Albert gives Cale another task plaque. Cale throws it to Bilose, who accepts the authority to purchase influence and spread information inside the Empire. Cale separately receives a personal plaque that remains unspent by the end of the supplied corpus. (Chapters 57–58)

Abilities and properties

  • Each plaque authenticates that its holder is acting with the crown prince's authority. (Chapters 10 and 21)
  • Depending on the grant attached to it, a plaque can authorize purchases, withdrawals, or official transactions without Cale supplying the money himself. (Chapters 10, 16, and 24)
  • The plaques have political value beyond their material worth: Bilose treats possession of one as proof that his work is backed by Rowoon's future king. (Chapter 57)
