Life in Klein's Era

Walter had served in Viscount Conrad's household before a conflict with its butler forced him to seek a new position. Dwayne Dantès hired the experienced forty-two-year-old at an annual salary of 115 pounds. Walter immediately supplied what Dwayne's manufactured identity lacked: command of household protocol, social schedules, servants, property searches, balls, hunts, and the quiet flow of information among Backlund's upper class (Chapters 738–768).

His professionalism did not make him emotionally empty. Walter covertly brought food and advice to Trissy, whose connection to Prince Edessak placed her in grave danger, and guarded that act beneath a servant's discretion. He also investigated Ma'am Wahana's predicament when his employer asked for help, translating a tycoon's concern into practical action. During the Feysac air raid, Walter organized the household into the wine cellar and kept the servants functioning under bombardment. He remained alive and in service at the latest point the corpus follows him (Chapters 774, 779–788, 1072–1085).

Appearance and personality

Walter is a composed middle-aged gentleman whose white gloves and precise bearing embody the standards of a senior Loenese servant. He is formal, observant, discreet, and exceptionally conscious of etiquette. Beneath that reserve he shows loyalty and sympathy, but expresses both through arrangements and risk-managed action rather than open emotion (Chapters 738–788).

Pathways and abilities

Walter is an ordinary human. His effectiveness comes from professional memory, social knowledge, staff management, investigation through servant networks, and calm crisis organization. Nothing in the corpus establishes a potion, Sequence, supernatural sense, or combat power for him (Chapters 738–1085).
