Biography

Life in Klein's Era

Swain was a retired Mandated Punisher captain who owned the Evil Dragon Bar and received a share of the underground market's profits. Alcohol and despair had overtaken his retirement, yet he still supplied useful information to Klein Moretti, identifying a portrait connected to Sirius and recalling the sale of Hornacis-related documents. (Chapters 68–101)

When a former subordinate lost control near the river, Swain asked Old Neil and Klein for support, then personally grappled with the rampaging man while his rage accumulated. Their charms created the opening for Swain to shatter the victim's skull; afterward, he poured out his remaining liquor over a comrade who had served him for nearly thirty years, making the duty feel more like a funeral than a victory. (Chapters 128–130)

His grief and experience informed his refusal to advance further: although he possessed the Seafarer formula, he did not dare consume it. Remaining a Folk of Rage limited his power, but it also avoided repeating the loss of control he had been forced to end. (Chapter 295)

Appearance and personality

Swain was an older, blue-eyed man with thick, muscular arms, firm muscles, messy brown hair, and a lingering military bearing; he sometimes wore a naval officer's uniform over his clothes and smelled strongly of alcohol. He was blunt, weary, and self-destructive, but responsibility toward former subordinates could still cut through his apathy. (Chapters 101–130)

Pathways and abilities

Swain was a Sequence 8 Folk of Rage of the Sailor pathway. He possessed great strength, balance, and the ability to accumulate anger before releasing an explosive physical strike, but a rampaging Beyonder could initially overpower him and he needed allies to create a decisive opening; he never advanced to Sequence 7 Seafarer. Relationships

Swain retained the trust of official Beyonders such as Old Neil despite leaving the Mandated Punishers. His nearly thirty-year bond with the subordinate he killed revealed the personal cost behind his drinking, while Klein knew him as a reliable if damaged source within Backlund's underground market. (Chapters 101–130)

Items

Swain carried a metal liquor flask and kept his old naval uniform, and his bar gave him access to an underground Beyonder market. None of these is identified as a mystical item. (Chapters 68–130)
